Week in Preview

Welcome to our Week in Preview:

Week Starting 11/9

We will be starting Parent/Teacher/Student conferences this Tuesday. I'm
looking forward to meeting with all of you!

There is no school Wednesday due to Veterans Day

ELA: This is a very short week. We started reading the last Jr. Great Book
Story Oliver Hyde's Dishcloth Concert last week. We will be generating
questions and connections as we read. Kids will focus on an interpretive
question which we will discuss and answer using evidence from the story.
We completed our first story last week. All kids who wanted to shared their
story aloud with the class. It was a great celebration of the kids work and
creativity. We will be moving on to the next writing unit which is a
narrative story.

Math: We will be working this week with measuring angles with protractors and
using a compass to explore angles made by intersecting lines.

Science: In science we will be exploring energy efficiency using different
types of light bulbs. Students are working on their ice cube challenge at
home. On Friday, kids will bring in their creations to test.

This week in Spanish we wrapped up the unit on masculine and feminine nouns
with a spoken assessment, in which students named 3 items independently and
without references. Students that earned less than a 3 are welcome to stay
after, or meet me by appointment, to re-take the assessment. Next week we
will learn the days of the week, and at the start of classes from now on
students will answer the question ¿Qué día es? (What day is it?). To practice
the days of the week, we will learn a song, and students will participate in
some cooperative challenges with their classmates. Students are welcome to
stay after school with me on Wednesdays for extra practice or make-ups.

Last week students continued to practice animal vocabulary with
lotto-listening and putting a chip on the animal that I say as well as tic tac
toe in pairs or groups of three. Students had to say the name of the animal
before being able to put their chip on the square. At the end of the week, we
began to write sentences based on illustrations of animals situated around a
table. "Le lion est sur la table. Ask your child to sing the preposition
song for you. They will use their hands to show each preposition.

Next week we will continue with animal and preposition vocabulary. Students
will write and illustrate their own sentences and share them with the class.

Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or comments. I am
available before and after school most days by appointment.
