| FOURTH GRADE LUNCH GROUPS: This year, as in previous years, beginning in
September, I will have lunch with every fourth grader three times. Students
are organized into groups of four or five for each class. It will take until
late December to see every fourth grader 3 times. The purpose of these
groups is to give the students the opportunity to get to know the other
students (and me) better. These groups are considered "Friendly Visits."
We chat and play games (like "Sports Team Hangman," "States and Capitals
Hangman," or my personal favorite, "Dog Breed Hangman!")
FIFTH GRADE LUNCH GROUPS: This year I decided I would also have lunch with
the fifth graders. Those lunch groups began October 8. We will have lunch
together two times.
Other small groups may be offered at Marshwood Great Works School throughout
the school year. These groups are usually on an as needed (or requested)
basis. Topics for groups include (but are not limited to): divorce; grief;
social skills/friendship; anger management; and study skills. A student will
not be in one of these groups without parental notification/consent.
I hope to offer a "Parents Living Apart"(divorce)group as an after school
activity, beginning sometime in November (from 3:00-4:00). It would meet
about eight times. The rationale for holding it at this time is that many
students do not like to miss recess, and having it after school would give me
more time at one session. Several students have already expressed an
interest in participating.
If you have any questions about these groups, or you would like your child to
participate in a group, please call or email me.
