Thanks to all for attending Open House. Thanks also to those who added their email addresses to
the list. As a reminder, laptop forms should be returned to the office by Friday the 25th. Then,
permission to take the laptops home will be granted the following week. If you missed the laptop
meeting preceeding Open House, stay tuned for upcoming meeting dates (TBA).

We had a great field trip on Friday. What beautiful weather!! Thanks to our chaperones for making
the trip possible. Now we're gearing up for our "Harvest Festival" week... Mrs. Locke's classes will be
busy all week preparing items for our Harvest Buffet, and science classes will be discussing various
aspects of farming in ecological and environmental terms. We will also research the local farms that
contributed to our menu, and students will produce educational posters about "eating locally." Any
parent-experts in this domain? We'd love to invite a few speakers to give presentations to our
students.

Does anyone have a garden overflowing with tomatoes, zucchini, etc.? Any donations can be
brought in by Wednesday. We're also looking for hay bales and corn stalks for decorations, and we'd
happily take on a few volunteers.

Sincerely,
The 7W Teachers

September 15th, 2009

We are off to a great start with our new seventh graders! September is a busy month on the 7W
community; we have been working in the garden, preparing for our field trip, and soon we will be
planning the first-ever MMS Harvest Lunch! This is an state-wide initiative that focuses on eating
healthy, local, in-season ingredients. The school lunch on Friday, September 25th will feature local
ingredients, and 7W classes will be preparing additional "buffet" items for students in all grades to
try. We will use some produce from our garden, as well as local farms.

Open House is THIS Thursday (9/17). The laptop meeting will be held right before Open House.
Laptops will not go home with students unless a parent attends and signs the requisite forms.

LAPTOP MEETING - 6:00 - 6:30
OPEN HOUSE - 6:30-7:30

We look forward to meeting you on Thursday!

Sincerely,
The 7W Teachers

Dear Seventh Graders of 2009-2010, June 8, 2009

Welcome to The 7 White Community! We’re glad you will be spending next year with us. We
have many things planned: In science we study living things. One highlight in September is a hike up
and around Mt. Agamenticus where we will observe, measure and record data about the mountain
and its creatures. In social studies we will investigate how the first American Colonists lived - we’ll
study American history right up to the Civil War. In language arts we’ll read about foreign places,
participate in discussion groups and write about many topics that will interest you. Math classes will
be divided by levels of readiness. Your current math teacher has placed you where you need to be.

Your teachers will be Mr. Leavitt for math; Mr. Young for social studies; Mrs. Stauffer for science
& Mrs. McFarland for language arts. Advisory teachers for 7W are Mrs. Crowe, Mr. Scarpone & Mrs.
Locke.

If you are wondering what the best things about seventh grade are, this year’s seventh graders
say they love using laptops, teachers are nice, the field trips to Lowell and Mt. A. were the best field
trip and they got to do cool projects.

Have you noticed the MMS garden located on the hill outside the 7th grade wing? We are
growing all sorts of vegetables to help us learn about ecology and environmental science. This
year’s 7 white students designed this garden with hopes that you will keep it going. We are looking
for 7 White students who are willing to help us with the garden this summer. If you are available to
work in our garden, please contact Mrs. Stauffer (estauffer@msad35.net). Volunteers will be able to
harvest some veggies to take home.

We would like to begin communication with you and your parents. Please have your mom or
dad email Mrs. Stauffer with their email addressses, so we can begin our new 7 White Community list
for 2009-2010.

It’s early to think about supplies for next year, but for those of you who are highly organized,
the supply list is on back.

Have a great summer. Be Smart. Be Safe. And READ a book once in a while (or often)!
Remember, Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body! Summer reading requirements will
be handed out before you leave next week.

					Yours truly, The 7-White Teachers
