Hi Parents, We have some important events coming up... 1. CONFERENCES: Tomorrow night is our first round of conferences. If you cannot remember your time, please email me. We will meet in room 100 and 102. Since we have 4 parents every 20 minutes and we are on a rotation, it is imperative that you are on time. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate late arrivals. We look forward to meeting with you. It is up to you whether you bring your child or not. 2. MAGAZINE KICK OFF: Tomorrow morning, we will kick off the schoolwide annual fundraiser for magazine sales. This is one of the only ways we make money for our team. 3. VETERAN's DAY ASSEMBLY: Friday at 9:00 will be our annual assembly when we honor our veterans and public servants. Our team will be performing a song about peace written by Max Parker and produced by Darren LaPointe. In addition, we will be "sending off" one of our parents, LoRee's dad, Officer Shelton Thomas as he will be deployed to Iraq for a year. We have a special slideshow for him and will be giving him a basket of goodies. If any of you want to send in something for the basket, we are taking donations (candies, books, etc). Finally, Josh Marks will be playing God Bless America on his guitar. 4. TABLE Of PLENTY: We will be serving and preparing a meal for the soup kitchen in Berwick on Wednesday, November 18. If you would like to volunteer, please email. We leave from school at about 3:00 and finish up at the church by 6:15. We have a sign up and because there is so much interest from students, we pick out of a hat. We serve four times, so hopefully everyone that wants to will be abe to participate at some point.

Hi Parents, Three important pieces of information... 1. H1N1- Blue packets are coming home today with paperwork to be returned to receive the H1N1 vaccine. Please read the information and call Mrs. Doran, the nurse, if you have any questions. They must be returned by October 20. 2. SILENT AUCTION/RAFFLE: On Saturday, October 24 from 9-3, we will have a silent auction and huge raffle to benefit our very own Max! He lost his house in a fire last month. We really hope that you can stop by the school between 9-3 next Saturday to help out his family! (I know they are still looking for donations if any of you have ideas...) 3. IMMIGRATION PANEL: We kicked off our Immigration Unit today. As part of our unit, we invite people that have immigrated to the United States. Do you know anyone that would be willing to talk with our students about their experience coming to America? We had a wonderful panel last year. We need them at 9:00 next Wednesday, October 21. Please let me know. Finally, next Friday is our Immigration Day. Students simulate going through Ellis Island. Then, they present their display boards, eat, and dance. I will send another email next week detailing what the students will need. You are invited to come in...

Hi Parents,
Just a quick note that laptops are coming home today for those who have filled out the required forms and paid the fee. CAUTION... These laptops have webcams!! Please take a minute to create rules around the laptop use at home. I strongly suggest supervised use of the computer. It is our expectation that these machines be used for school purposes only!! They should not be downloading anything or using the webcam for any reason. Also, you should know that your filter system at home is what the laptop will use. In other words, sites that are typically blocked with the school filter may not be blocked on yours.
Questions? Please ask. Have a great long weekend.

Hi Parents, Today, we hosted a visitor from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. For the past eleven years, our school has participated in the annual walk to raise funds for blood cancer research. Over the past decade, our school has raised close to $60,000!!! The eighth grade will once again participate in the walk. After learning about blood borne pathogens, we handed out pledge sheets for next Saturday. The Light the Night walk will take place next Saturday, October 3 at York Beach Ball Field. The registration is at 5:00. The walk starts at 6:30. Students received pledge envelopes today. We do NOT promote door to door solicitation. Several students took cans to be placed in businesses. We will email more details as the date approaches, but we wanted to give you a "heads up" that students will be collecting pledges. We hope for a strong turn out for the 2009 walk. Please email if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!!

Hi Parents, Words cannot express how proud we are of our students for their behavior today. I actually lost count of the number of compliments we received from Pease Greeters, troops, and veterans. There were smiles, tears, and feelings of gratitude! The division we welcomed home today came from Iraq after a year there. They lost four soldiers while serving. Our students were able to ask questions and have general conversations with them. This trip has set the tone for our year. I encourage you to have a conversation with your children about their experiences. We can all agree that this was a powerful day. We all hope to see you at Open House this Thursday. The laptop meeting is from 6:00-6:30 and our Open House is from 6:30-7:30. We will address you as a group briefly with important details about our team and then we will be in our rooms for you to informally drop by and meet us. If today is any indication, I am confident that this will be a great year! If you have any questions or comments, please reply. See you on Thursday. Mr. Roy I will have pictures posted of our trip soon.

Hi Parents, We are excited to be able to provide an opportunity for our students. On Tuesday, a flight of troops are returning from overseas and landing at Pease. We will greet them as they come home. As part of this trip, we will discuss the meaning of democracy and world peace. We plan to take video footage and pictures and use technology to create a multimedia presentation. Today, your children are bringing home a permission slip. There is no cost for this trip. Please understand that these flights change on a regular basis. There is a good possibility that we may not even go if the times are changed. I will keep you updated as to the change in plans. We have attended flights in previous years and we feel very strongly that this powerful experience will set the tone for the year. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to send me an email. Thanks, Mr. Roy PS We have our Open House next Thursday at 6:30. We look forward to meeting you. Also, school pictures are on Tuesday. We will take the pictures and then depart for our trip.
