Please allow the guidance office 2 weeks to process your scholarship applications - this means you need to turn in your completed application 2 weeks before the due date! 
 
 
1. Dr. Seuss's Oh, The Places You Will Go! Scholarship - $5,000.  Recognizes a high school senior who understands and values the limitless possibilites that enducation can offer.  One page essay required.  
Deadline:  Feb. 15, 2010. 
 
2.  Danforth Scholars Program at Washington Univ. in St. Louis - full or partial tuition scholarship.  Candidates should exhibit a capacity for service, leadership and academic excellence.  If you would like to be nominted for this program, see your counselor. 
Deadline:  Jan. 15, 2010.
 
3.  Wendy's High School Heisman Award - prizes range from Wendy's gift cards to being featured on ESPN.  Eligibility is limited to seniors who have at least a "B" average and participate in at least one sport.  Register and begin the application process at www.wendysheisman.com
Deadline:  Oct. 1, 2010 at 5pm (central time).
 
4.  Skidmore College Filene Music Scholarship - $40,000 scholarship.  Open to seniors pursuing a liberal arts education at Skidmore - you do not have to major in music but you must reamin active in the college's musical life. 
Deadline:  Jan. 15, 2010.
 
5.  Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship - awards vary, up to $60,000.  Open to any senior, you do not need to be a member of the Elks to apply.  Applicants judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need.  Applications available at www.maineelks.org/2010 MVS Application.pdf
Deadline:  Nov. 2, 2009.
 
6.  Tri-Town Soccer Scholarship - $200.  Offered by the Poland Rec Department, this scholarship is open to any senior who has played soccer throughout high school and who has dedicated time to helping the Tri-Town Youth Soccer Program through coaching, refereeing, and/or helping set up or clean up for games. 
Deadline:  April 30, 2010.
 
7.  Wheelock College Merit Scholarships - amount varies.  All accepted freshmen who meet the following criteria will receive a merit scholarship.  $4,000-$8,000:  3.0 GPA & 1050 SAT in CR&M.  $8,000-$12,000:  3.4GPA & 1150 SAT in CR&M. 
 
8.  Southern Maine Women's Golf Assoc. Scholarship - number available and amounts vary each year.  Open to women who have participated in some aspect of the game of golf.
Deadline:  July 15, 2010.
 
9.  National Commission for Cooperative Education Scholarship - 170 $6,000 merit scholarships available.  Must apply and be accepted to one of the following:  Drexel, Johnson&Wales, Keetering, Pace, RIT, U of Cincinnati, U of Toledo, or Wentworth Inst. of Technology.  More info at www.co-op.edu

10.  Skidmore College Porter Presidential Scholarship in Math & Science - five $40,000 scholarships available.  Scholarship candidates are selected on strength of  thier admissions application, with particular emphasis on coursework in math & science. 
Deadline:  January 15, 2010.
 
11.  Voice of Democracy Patriotic Audio Essay - up to $30,000.  Prepare a 3-5 minute script on the following topic: "Does America Still Have Heroes?"
Deadline:  November 14, 2009.
 
12.  Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship - up to $5,000.  Write a one page essay stating why you want to plan a career in gov't services including any inspiration to be derived from the leadership of George Washington in his famous crossing of the Delaware.  
   Deadline:  January 15, 2010.
 
13.  Merrimack College Annual Science & Engineering Scholarship Competition - up to full tuition scholarhsip available.  Academic competition to test your knowledge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). 
Register by:  November 2, 2009.
 
14.  AXA Achievement Scholarship - up to $25,000.  Open to students who are active in their community, who have lead a project that benefited others, and/or who have overcome personal challenges. 
Deadline:  December 15, 2009.
 
15.  Coca-Cola Scholarship - 250 scholarships available.  Open to motivated, dedicated and involved high school seniors.  Apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org
Deadline:  October 31, 2009.
 
16.  3rd Annual Create-A-Greeting-Card Scholarship Contest - $10,000.  The best greeting card will win the scholarship and the design will be made into an actual card.  Go to http://www.gallerycollection.com/greeting-cards-scholarship3.htm for more info.
Deadline:  January 15, 2010.
 
17.  Boston University Trustee Scholarship Competition - full tuition.  Trustee Scholars are typically in top 10% of senior class and are very active leaders in their school/community.  If you'd like to be nominated for this scholarship, see your counselor as soon as possible.
Deadline:  December 1, 2009.
 
18.  Washington University in St. Louis - multiple scholarships available.  See booklet in guidance. 
Deadline for most scholarships:  January 15, 2009.
 
19.  Marist College & National Science Foundation  - 12 full scholarships available to students attending Marist College who major in Computer Science or Information Technology & Systems. 
Deadline:  February 15, 2010.
 
20Clyde Russell Scholarships - 2 different scholarships available.  1. For Graduating HS Seniors Who Will Attend a 4 Year College - up to $5,000.  2.  For Graduating HS Seniors Who Will Attend a 2 Year College - up to $2,000.  Applications available at www.clyderussellscholarshipfund.org.
Deadline:  February 1, 2010.
 
21.  2010 NFIB Young Enterpreneur Award - $1,000 to $10,000.  Open to any HS senior who has preferably shown entreprenurial spririt by starting own business or participating in DECA, FBLA or similar organization. More info at www.nfib.com/yea
Deadline:  December 31, 2009.
 
22.  Clark University - multiple scholarships available to students planning to attend Clark University (MA).  See flyer in the scholarship notebook for more info.
Deadline:  January 1, 2010.
 
23.  Army ROTC Scholarship - full tuition, plus stipend.  Service committment required. See scholarship notebook for details.  No boot camp.  Participating colleges:  UMaine-Orono, Husson, Thomas, Colby, UMaine-Augusta, Unity, and UMaine-Bangor.
 
24.  Barking Foundation Scholarship - 50 $3,000 grants available.  Open to Maine residents with financial need. 
Deadline:  February 19, 2010.
 
25.  KFC Colonel's Scholars - up to $20,000.  Open to seniors with at least a 2.75 GPA who want to pursue a bachelor's degree and who have financial need.  Online application will be available starting Dec. 1 at www.kfcscholars.org.
Deadline:  February 10, 2010.
