Grading and Homework Policies

Grading Policy:

Most unit usually have the following graded pieces: Mathematical Reflections, 2 - 3 quizzes, and a unit test. Sometimes the unit test will be a "level 2" assessment. This will happen two times this year.

Each assignment will usually be worth the following number of points:

Mathematical Reflections: 10 points per assignment

Quizzes: 20 points per quiz

Unit Test: 40 Points per test

Level 2: 50 points per test

There may also be times when student work is checked/collected. This work could include homework assignments, notes from class, or vocabulary lists. This work will be checked/collected randomly to make sure that students are completing and keeping track of their work. This work will be worth 5 points toward the student's grade.

Final trimester grades will be the average of points earned compared to points possible.

Homework Policy:

If you are not able to complete your homework because you struggled with a problem or problems, stop where you got stuck. Then, have your parents write a brief message explaining the situation. This way, I know that you have been communicating with your parents about homework. When you come to class, be ready to ask to see the problem done as one of the problems that we correct as a group.

If you do not complete your homework because you did not feel like doing it, or you forgot to do it, then you will be staying after school that school day, or the next school day to complete the work. If you complete the work before our scheduled appointment, we will spend the time after school checking the work for understanding.
