Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.

Welcome to Junior High Art!  I am so excited to start on our journey together as you explore being an artist.  I believe that everyone is an artist.  The problem is that, as students age, they sometimes forget how to be an artist and explore new things.  This is why I am so excited to be here this year.  Coming from an elementary school, to the junior high, is exciting for me. I want to teach you how you can still be an artist and appreciate art as you grow into the next stage of your life.   Don’t be intimidated by the term “artist”.  Art comes in many forms, so get ready for some fun learning experiences!

Students will participate in a variety of studio activities which include Art History, Art Criticism, and Aesthetics.  Through looking at, talking about, and making art, students can develop a positive appreciation for the arts as well as an informed understanding of the art process.  In addition, students may use technology to research various projects, artists, and movements.  We plan to explore different types of media including, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics.

While I do plan for us to have fun exploring artists and their materials, I do have some basic expectations.

1.)            I expect all students to be on time and prepared for class.

2.)            I expect students to learn and be successful.

3.)            I expect all students to feel safe and use materials and equipment appropriately in my room.

4.)            I expect that all students will be respectful of each other, established rules, and the materials in our room.

5.)            I expect that we: myself, students, and families will be responsible in helping students reach their full potential intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically to achieve life-long learning.

Grades will be based on class work, projects, participation, attitudes, journal/sketchbook entries, assessments, and homework assignments.  The grading system I will use is the same as that which is outlined in your BJHS Student & Parent Handbook.

Together, I hope that we have an exciting learning experience.  If at any time during the term you need to speak to me regarding an issue, please feel free to contact me.  The best way to get in touch with me will be either through my email
