About The Teacher
Please excuse the gigantic picture. That's my dog Riley and me. In our spare time we participate in Agility Angels. Riley runs agility courses with autistic children as his coaches, minus the chicken costume. He likes to visit my classroom, too. A little about me… I graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I received my Mater's Degree from Spring Arbor University last fall. I've had the opportunity to wear many "hats" here at Jackman Road. I became JRE’s building sub after graduating and subsequently was hired as an aide in kindergarten, a half-time fourth grade teacher and literacy coach. Four years ago, I taught physical education at Jackman. This is my fifth year as a third grade teacher. My heart has always been in the classroom and third grade has always been a place I feel at home. I have been a member of the Bedford Community for roughly twelve years. I have two daughters: one is a recent graduate of Bedford High School, the other will be a junior this year. I am honored to be a member of the teaching faculty here at Jackman. Your children are the future of our community. I take their education very seriously. I believe in children actively being the constructors of their own knowledge. My job, as their teacher, is to give them the strategies they need to build meaning that makes sense to them. We will be working on specific reading strategies that your child can utilize when reading becomes difficult. We’ll be working on math and science with the same philosophy in mind. I believe that we are in this together. Support from home can never be underestimated. You were your child’s first teacher, and continue to be a vital component in their education. Reinforcement at home is essential. I look forward to working with you this school year.
