The Grand Traverse County Health Department would like to remind parents of preschoolers and elementary students under age 10 that two doses of H1N1 flu vaccine are recommended at least 28 days apart. Students that received their first doses at any of the local school-based clinics are eligible for their booster doses at this time. The booster dose is very important for this age group to obtain full protection against the H1N1 virus. It is not too late to get this booster dose if students have not yet received one from their health care provider. The Grand Traverse County Health Department will be offering a free H1N1 vaccination clinic next week:
Date: Tuesday January 12th
Time: 4 - 6:30 pm
Location: Grand Traverse County Health Department
Who: Children under 10 years old that need a second H1N1 vaccination
Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
This is a walk-in clinic, no appointments are needed
Parents can call 922-2768 if they have any questions

Welcome back, everybody! I hope that all of our fifth grade families had a relaxing and joyful holiday. While we were all a bit sleepy today, it was certainly wonderful to be together again. You are all invited to attend the school-level Geography Bee this Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in Lars if you are available. Typically, the bee runs about 45 minutes. We wish the best of luck to Aurora Matteson and Anna Muzzarelli, our classroom winners. They will now compete against six other 5th graders from Central Grade School who won their classroom bees. Those students are Forest Roth, Carly Burns, Tyler Workman, Toria Green, Jerome Horton, and Wyatt Alpers. Good job, finalists!
Next Thursday, January 14th, our class will be seeing our second Young People's Theater show of the year. The title is "Circo Comedia," and here is a brief summary of the performance.
"Unpredictable thrills,
side-splitting comedy and daredevil stunts are the signature style of CIRCO
COMEDIA starring the fantastic duo Jean
Saucier and Patrick Cote from Montreal performing their distinctive style of
humor, acrobatic tricks, daring feats, magic and eccentricity. Following in the
tradition of the Quebec Circus, Cirque de Soleil, Jean Saucier, master
equilibrist, juggler, trick cyclist, acrobat and magician performs his feats
from dizzying heights while Patrick Côté, burlesque clown, expert roller skater
and drummer, innocently tries his best to be the (imperfect) assistant. Sides
will split, funny bones will tingle, as this deliriously funny duo mesmerize
their young audiences with that rare combination of superstar talent and
genuine improvisational skill."
The cost for this show is $2.00 per person. If you have already made your yearly donation, then your fifth grader's entrance fee is paid. If you have chosen to pay per event for the year, please send in the $2.00 donation prior to next Thursday's performance. If you write a check, please make it payable to TCAPS. Thank you for supporting the enrichment events that have been pre-arranged for your child.
