Comparison papers have been graded and returned. This was the most in-depth, formal writing piece the students have written this year. Please ask your son or daughter to share it with you if you haven't seen it yet. Overall, I am pleased with the growth your children are making in the area of written expression. There will be no reading log or word study lists between now and holiday break. We have many special events happening between now and December 23rd, and I know how busy families are at this time of the year as well. Last week, the students finished giving their oral presentations on their science fiction / fantasy novels. They were very creative and many of them made us laugh out loud. What great imaginations your children have! We had commercials, talk shows, re-enactments of various scenes of the books, poster presentations, diary entries read, alternative endings, and a video. These presentations did exactly what I had hoped they would - encourage students to read some of the other books from the suggested reading list. We are moving into reading informational text and taking reading notes. Students will learn more about effective ways to take notes to help them remember what they've read. Our readings will be taken from a variety of historical fiction books. Selected students will also be asked to take part in role-playing exercises to help us learn more about the past in a fun and memorable way. We are in our final weeks of reporting the news live every morning on CGN news. All of the students have an opportunity to be a part of a news team, and everyone has done a terrific job! They have taken their roles seriously, and have greatly contributed to serving the students of Central Grade. I am very proud of them.
