June 1, 2009
Math: We finished our measurement unit. The test results will be sent home
with the report cards. We will finish the year with a mix review of all the
material we have learned over the year; addition, subtraction, graphing,
telling time and measurement. I will strongly drill addition and subtraction
practice for the next week. The children should continue to practice
addition and subtraction during the summer.
Writing: The children did an awesome job presenting their research
reports. We have started our poetry unit. The children will finish this
year by writing a poem.
Social Studies: This week we will go over the History Review, which will be
sent home on Monday. The test will be on Wednesday.
Spelling: We will end the year practicing contractions. The students will
receive a *Zing* packet which we will work to complete by the end of the
year. It was very nice to work with you and your child. I know this years
spelling program took some getting use to. I hope you were satisfied as the
year went on. They will continue this same spelling program in third grade.
Science: We will end our unit on our Earth*s surface. The test will be Monday.
Field Trip: If you plan on attending the field trip with your child, you
will need to fill out a volunteer Release form by Wednesday. Without this
form you may not attend the field trip even if you are not riding the bus!
Report Cards: On June 9th, the last day of school your child will bring home
an envelope containing his/her report card, various assessments, and a
letter explaining the contents. I also included a summer writing journal and
a math skills packet for your child's use during the summer to help prepare
him/her for third grade. If you have any questions, you may contact me at
the school.
Other: Chapman Elementary offers a summer reading and math program for
students. The program runs every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. For
more details you may contact the office.
Field Day: We will have field day on Friday rain or shine. Please be sure
your child is dressed for the weather. Remember sunscreen! Mrs. Kozicki is
still in need of volunteers. If you are interested in helping please let me
know.
