Spelling Program

            I will be the spelling teacher this year for 2nd grade.  We will 
use the Rebecca Sitton Spelling Program.  I will send home more information 
about this program on Monday, September 8th.  

A few notes about this program:
            This is not your traditional spelling program with list to 
memorize and spelling test on Friday's.  This program develops lifelong 
spelling skills through everyday writing and word study.  Your child will 
not have weekly spelling list.  He/she will develop his/her own personalized 
spelling list based on words he/she needs to master.  You will be given a 
list of "Core Words" which are all the words your child will learn and work 
with repeatedly throughout the second grade.  You will also be given a list 
of "Priority Words".  These are also known as "NO EXCUSE WORDS".  These are 
the words that your child will be expected to spell correctly at ALL times.  
These are the words that your child's spelling words will come from.  Test 
will not be announced ahead of time.  The words that your child makes an 
error on will be the words that make up his/her spelling list.
            There will be "Take-Home Task" and "Proofreading" homework which 
will be explained further at a later date.  This homework is NOT to be 
returned to school.  It is not meant to be done for a teacher to grade.  
This homework is to be used as a home support for your child.  You should 
create a special container to keep all your child's spelling task because 
you will use them later with other skills for spelling.  Remember this 
program is designed to repeat skills for mastery.
            This is a new program and you may have questions, please feel
