When will we be allowed to get into our lockers?
We ask that until each student can successfully get into their locker
that they not put anything in the locker. Rule of thumb is they must
successfully open their locker 9 times in a row before putting
anything in the locker. After that we like to limit the use to before
school, before lunch, after lunch, before Advisory Period, and at the end
of the day. There are 3 minutes passing between classes, this time
should be used for drinks, bathroom use and questions unrelated to
class. Time will not be taken out of class to go to their lockers.
Each student is expected to go to class prepared.
What supplies will we need for sixth grade?
All teachers request that each student bring them a box of Kleenex, 4
boxes total, we go through a lot of kleenex! :) It is especially
nice when each student brings their own pencil, pen, eraser. Colored
pencils, markers, crayons, rulers, scissors, glue sticks are provided for by
each teacher in a project box. Students are not required to buy these
items. We do have extra of these items to sign out if they need to be taken
home by a student. We do ask that each student has some kind of organizer:
a notebook, trapper keeper or six individual folders.
A USB flash drive or
jump drive (portable storage device) is used in all classes throughout the
year, especially computers. We have found 4 GB on sale for 9 dollars but
no more that 2 GB is really needed. The middle school lab does have a small
quantity of jump drives that can be checked out for short periods of time.
What time is lunch and how much money will I need?
Lunch is from 12:07 pm until 12:37 pm. Each student is responsible for
their own money and paying for their own lunch, money may be deposited in
their account and of course students may bring
their own lunch.
What time is recess?
The only recess that sixth graders have is the time right after they
finish eating. On days when the weather is bad, students will go the
the middle school gym.
When is gym?
Gym class is taught by Mr. Ream and comes out of the exploratory
class which is seventh period. Band and Spanish are also taught
during this period. Sixth graders will have either gym, band or
spanish each day. The classes rotate on a six week schedule.
Will we have time to get help on any work or work in groups?
This year all sixth graders will have an Advisory/activity period
which will be during their last class period. During this time students will
be able to work with individual teachers to receive any extra help that is
needed, work on group projects or complete any unfinished activity.
Will we have agendas or planners?
Yes, students will be given an agenda, that agenda will be graded as to
whether it is filled out or not, on each Monday or the first day of each week
we are attending school. This grade will be included in their
computer/technology grade. Each teacher will have assignments posted in
their classroom on their white board or data projector screen. When students
enter the classrooms
they are to first fill out their agenda with the assignment. If students
seem to fall behind we can make arrangements to have teachers sign their
agenda as to whether an assignment finished or not. Sixth grade does not require
parents to sign agendas, unless special arrangements in this area are made.
