Important Homework dates will be listed here. An example might be
Reading Book Projects: what project each hour has and when that
project is due.
Genre
1st hour – Humorous
2nd hour – Mystery
5th hour - Biography/Autobiography
1st Hour - Humorous - The project will consist of reading a funny or humorous
book then make a movie poster...announcing their book as the funniest book
ever! They are required to present this poster to the class and describe it,
then read one short, "funny" part to the class. The student should write or
key (type) the part of the book out and attach to the back of their poster. The
student will then be asked to recommend the book to their classmates and rank
the book on a scale of 1 to 10. A 10 would be the best humorous book they
have ever read.
2nd Hour - Mystery - The project will consist of reading a mystery book then
make a poster or bring in shoes that represent the characters' shoes. The
students will describe each character, why they chose the shoes that they did
for this character, tell what the mystery is and if it was solved by the end
of the book. The student will then be asked to recommend the book to their
classmates and rank the book on a scale of 1 to 10. A 10 would be the best
mystery book they have ever read.
5th Hour - Biography/Autobiography - The project will consist of reading a
biography or autobiography book then create a diary as if that diary belonged
to the person that the book was about. The student will read pages from the
diary to their classmates and tell why this person is/was famous. The student
will then be asked to recommend the book to their classmates and rank the book
on a scale of 1 to 10. A 10 would be the best biography/autobiography book
they have ever read.
This book project will be due October 20, 2009 for all classes.
I will have examples of book projects on display in my classroom for all
reading classes to observe.
Homework for each and every day can be gotten by calling the school
at 623-6120 and ext. 297. I record homework assignments daily, unless
I happen to be absent.
If a student is absent from my class, I post a typed "weekly" assignment sheet
with the student's name on the bulletin board just inside my classroom door,
room 207. Reading text books may be checked out to complete missed reading work.
Students are required to bring a Trade book every day to class and read the
first 10 to 15 minutes of class. A tardy will be give for not completing this
requirement.
Students are also required to read for ONE(1)hour at home during the week.
You may record this reading in 15 minute, 20 minute, 30 minute or 1 hour
increments during the week time period. A signed slip by a parent or
guardian will be required to validate the home reading on the following
Monday or the first day we are in school that week. We will also be using
notebooks that I have, for sharing that reading every week.
