FIRST MARKING PERIOD SYLLABUS
FRESHMEN
Week I Introductions, discussion of class rules, class requirements,
testing rules.
Week II Introduction to St. John Baptist De La Salle, reading and
discussion of the little text, I, John Baptist De La Salle, assorted
handouts, and a video. A TEST will follow.
Week III Questionnaire and discussion of belief in God, and discussion of
the difference between faith and religion revelation, faith, and doubt.
A visit from Brother Peter Kileen, Vocations Director for the NY Province.
Week IV Begin Chapter I of Written on Our Hearts pages 7-24. A TEST will
follow
Week V Read and discuss text pages 27-35, and read and discuss assorted
Bible chapters in Genesis 1-25. Some will be assigned for homework and
there will be QUIZZES along the way to reinforce reading and studying.
Week VI Read and discuss text pages 37-45 and compare these to the Genesis
stories we have read to date. Some will be assigned for homework and
there will be QUIZZES along the way to reinforce reading and studying.
A TEST may follow or it may be next week, depending on class speed.
Week VII Read and discuss text pages 45-51 and read and discuss
assorted chapters in Genesis from 25-50. Some will be assigned for
homework and there will be QUIZZES along the way to reinforce reading
and studying.
Week VIII This week dedicated to catching up any shortfalls on the
above and answering questions that were put on hold during the past
weeks. There is a possibility of quizzes during this week just to ensure
studying.
Week IX Finish chapter two of the text and Genesis discussions and follow up
with a TEST
NOTE ALSO: QUIZZES SUGGESTED ABOVE MAY INCLUDE SOME OF THE PRAYERS WE WILL
BE SAYING IN CLASS. WE WILL HAVE SAID THEM FOR AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE
THEY WILL BE PUT ON A QUIZ.
FINALLY: BEGIN NOW... MEMORIZING THE MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY. THEY WILL BE
ON A TEST AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER, THE FINAL TEST FOR THE MARKING PERIOD AND
THE SEMESTER EXAM.

Week II Questionnaire and discussion of belief in God, and discussion of
the difference between faith and religion revelation, faith, and
doubt.
Week III Introduction to St. John Baptist De La Salle, reading and
discussion of the little text, I, John Baptist De La Salle,
assorted handouts, and a video. A VISIT FROM BROTHER PETER
KILLEEN, THE VOCATIONS DIRECTOR FOR THE NY PROVINCE.
Week IV Begin Lesson I of catechism, Handbook for Today’s Catholic
pages 7-19 discussing God, revelation, faith, doubt, doctrine and
dogma. There will be quizzes along the way to reinforce reading
and studying.
Week V Read and discuss the text pages 19-28; God, the Trinity, God the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There will be QUIZZES along the way
to reinforce reading and studying.
Week VI Read and discuss the text pages 28-39: virtues, grace, the Church
and infallibility. A TEST will follow.
Week VII Read and discuss the text pages 39-46: Mary, the Saints, the Bible
and Sacred Tradition. There will be QUIZZES along the way to
reinforce reading and studying.
Week VIII Read and discuss the text pages 46-51 and 62-66 Sin–Original,
personal, and social evil, forming a conscience; human destiny:
heaven, hell, and purgatory. There will be QUIZZES along the way
to reinforce reading and studying.
Week IX Finish the text and follow up with a TEST.

IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW AS MUCH AS JUST FOLLOWING ONE ASSIGNMENT AFTER THE NEXT
IF WE DO NOT FINISH SOMETHING ON THE DATE ASSIGNED... JUST CARRY IT OVER TO
