GENERAL TIPS FOR SUCCESS IN CLASS
1. Students should take notes on all lectures given in class and review
them nightly.
2. Students should continue to memorize the following prayers: Sign of the
Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father, Glory be..., Hail Holy Queen, the Apostle's
Creed, Memorare, Mysteries of the Rosary, Grace Before Meals, and Prayer
for the Faithful Departed. WE will be using each of these prayers to
begin class and toward the end of each month will be quizzed on them.
THIS WILL NOT BE THE ONLY TIME THE PRAYERS WILL BE USED... WE WILL HAVE AN
OCCASIONAL POP QUIZ OR TWO JUST ON THE PRAYERS ... THEY MAY BE SAID IN
CLASS, AND THERE WILL BE A PRAYER SECTION ON THE FINAL EXAM.
3. Junior students are required to write a "quarterly report" on an issue of
Faith or Morals that they find of interest from a pre-approved magazine.
It is worth 50 Points. Due to the volume of reports, it requires a
minimum OF THREE WEEKS for me to have these corrected an returned. PLEASE
ALLOW 21 DAYS FROM THE DUE DATE BEFORE LOOKING ONLINE FOR THE GRADE. IF I
HAVE NOT GOT IT DONE BY THEN, PLEASE CALL.
Freshmen students will be required to write reports occasionally on an
upcoming Sunday set of readings. They will need to summarize the readings
and then to write a personal interpretation of the meaning of the theme and
the message of the readings assigned. This will be due just before the
Sunday that the readings will be used so that the student can mentally
compare what was his view with that of the priest given during his homily.
PLEASE TAKE YOUR SONS TO MASS. It deveats everything I am teaching if the
family shows indifference to our faith and its requirement to attend Mass.
GRADES FOR THESE REPORTS WILL BE RECORDED WITHIN 21 DAYS FROM THEIR DUE
DATE BECAUSE OF THE VOLUME OF PAPERS TO BE READ AND THE TIME AND CARE I
TAKE TO CORRECT GRAMMAR AND SPELLING. NOTE: Students are not graded on
personal opinion because that is what they need to express to help learn
more. I do grade on following directions, having proper presentation,
spelling and grammar.
4. Quizzes are given on notes given in class. Students are expected to be
taking notes, comparing them with other students, and studying about 15
minutes EACH and EVERY school night. [If you are having difficulty taking
good notes, see the "note taking tips on this site, and compare your notes
with those taken by other students to check for completeness. You may
also ask for help after school.]
5. TAKE GOOD AND COMPLETE NOTES AND STUDY THEM OFTEN... A TEST WILL ONLY
HAVE 24 HOURS WARNING... S-T-U-D-Y AT LEAST 15 MINUTES PER NIGHT ON YOUR
NOTES. DO NOT CRAM!!!
6. Prepare for a test on the last two days of the marking period which will
cover all of the information presented in class to that date.
