Old info....
Due to the school closure the week of Oct. 26th,...The study of parables is
moved to the week of
Nov. 2nd.
The week of Oct. 26th we will learn about Parables. Parables are stories
that Jesus told to help people understand and live what he was teaching. We
will be looking at the following parables: The Lost Sheep, The Prodigal Son,
The Mustard Seed, The Insistent Friend, and the Pharisee and the Tax
Collector. We will be using the Bible, our religion text book (ch. 14,) and
The Parables of Jesus, by Tommie dePaola. As we are learning about fables in
language arts classes, it seems a natural connection to learn about parables
also. Students will be using storyboards to retell parables, as well as
singing songs with parable themes and viewing "The Prodigal Son." We may
need two weeks to complete our study of parables. If you have a favorite
parable, please share it with your child.

The week of Oct. 19th we will learn about the PSALMS. Psalms are prayer songs
found in the Bible in the Book of Psalms. THe Book of Psalms is in the Old
Testament. King David was a writer of many psalms. He was part of the
family tree of Jesus. The Jewish people prayer psalms. Jesus prayed psalms.
The early Church prayed psalms and today we pray psalms between the first and
second readings at Mass. There are psalms of: Praise, Thanksgiving, Sorrow,
and Wisdom. We will be reading Psalm 67:7, Psalm 104, and Psalm 150.
You can go to our religion textbook website by using the sidebar on the home
page. There you can go to arcade games. At the bottom of the acarade games
page you can listen to a psalm and a canticle. Last week we tried our hand
at writing Canticles of Creation modeled after St. Francis' Canticle of the
Sun.
