ReadingBECAUSE OF THE HALF DAYS THIS WEEK, THERE WILL BE NO READING GROUPS OR CENTERS THIS WEEK ONLY!!!
READING GROUPS AND CENTER TIME
The following list shows what day your child will be in reading group with me. Please expect reading homework on that day unless otherwise notified by me.
Tuesdays Raven and Harvey Wednesdays Finn, Isaac, Ivan, Noah, Max and Chloe Thursdays Mikey, Demi, Dayton, Jake and Emilie Fridays Grace, Tara, Maria and Amanda
Centers always turns out to be the favorite time of day for most of the students. I hope that all of you get a chance to observe center time this year so that you can see how the students are developing responsibility and self-confidence in their work.
You can help at home by having your child read aloud their reading homework to you. Reading aloud is an important skill at this time as they need to try to use different strategies to help them read difficult words/passages and comprehend what they are reading. Students who read silently to themselves tend to skip difficult words and/or passages which does not help them. Also, ask them questions about what they have read, ask them to tell you what they learned about the characters, setting, problems and solutions from their readings. All these things help children to become better readers and better thinkers.

Reading Group and Center Time is a daily part of the 2nd Grade schedule.
