We'll spend December learning about our country's government.  We are learning and memorizing the Preamble to the Constitution.  Ask your child to sing it for you!  As outlined in the Constitution, our government is designed with 3 branches, each with separate powers.  Click on the links below to learn more about each branch!

Learning About the East
TheEast.jpg

It's time to start memorizing the states of the East.  Can you find them on a map?  Use the map that was sent home to practice.  There is a fun game on this website to practice naming the states!  Check it out!

U.S. Postcard Exchange

WHAT:  We are involved in a postcard exchange.  We will send postcards across the country and postcards will be sent to us.  It is a fun way to learn about the 50 states and the 4 major regions of the U.S.

NEEDED:  Every student needs to bring in 3 Michigan postcards with postage.  Do not write on the postcards – we will do that in class.

DUE:  Please send in postcards by next Tuesday, Oct. 6.

U.S. states and regions will be the focus this year.  We will start in the east and move west.  Students will be expected to label all 50 states on a map by the end of the year. Time will be spent on our U.S. government in Washington, D.C.  In addition, extra time will be spent on Michigan history (statehood to present day).  You can expect chapter and unit tests.
