Meeting Minutes--March


Home and School Agenda

March 8, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.

1. Call to Order: 6:40 p.m.

  • Prayer—Kathy Weber

2. Attendance:

3. School Board Report:

· Next School Board meeting—March 17, 2009

4. Treasurers Report:

  • Karen Thompson—not present
  • Kathy Frazier
    • $20,000 in the account with $10,000 for the student accounts

5. Fundraisers:

  • Fruit Sale

o The same number of cases were sold this year as last year.

o There was a profit of $4,000 which will go to the tuition fund.

o Kathy Frazier sold the surplus at the St. Michael’s.

o It was suggested that getting some samples for a pre-sale at church next year might be useful.

o It was suggested that this fund raiser could go for student accounts because the profit is $8.50/box. This idea will be visited in the fall.

  • Egg Sale

o There was no report given, but it was mentioned that the order forms needed some changes for next year.

  • Spring Book Fair

o The middle school book fair will be March 30-April 4.

o The elementary book fair will be May 11-15.

6. H&S Sponsored Events:

  • Teacher Appreciation Luncheon

o June 9 at St. Michael’s

o It will have a Hawaiian theme.

7. Grant Requests/Updates:

· Grants passed since last meeting

o Heather Anderson requested $200 for an Elmo document projector—passed.

o Karen Ogles requested $275.40 for books on handling grief and crisis issues that students have—passed.

· Literacy Committee

o The literacy committee requested $200 for their March is Reading Month activity. The money will be used to purchase the ingredients for ice cream sundaes—Passed.

· VBS

o A $500 grant was requested for VBS to help purchase materials for the crafts and lessons—Passed.

· There was discussion about the possibility of requesting a grant for basketballs. Kathy Weber is going to look into this.

8. Old Business:

· Auction

o Beth Stanchina found a website outlining how to run an auction. She will pass it on to those in charge.

o There was discussion about the date. Some think it has been set for the first Friday in November at St. Peter’s. It was verified with the school board as Friday, November 6th but at the St. Michael's Center.

o A few names (Tamara Leadbetter, Renee Leow, and Cindy Laitinen) will be brought to the board of people who are willing to work on the auction.

· Website

o Deb Mleko has volunteered to keep the Home and School page of the web site updated.

· Directory

o It has been distributed. Special thanks to all that worked on it!

o Names are in the directory of families who asked to be left out due to accidental miscommunication errors.

o Deb Mleko and Kristy Taccolini offered to prepare the forms for next year.

· Volunteer Form

o The ones that went out did not have all the updates on them.

o A form will go home later this spring with the items that were missed.

o Michele Boehmer went to the board to ask if school repairs can be added to the list. The janitors and principals are prioritizing lists.

· Candy Bar Sale Chairperson

o Beth Stanchina and Mary Fish will co-chair the candy bar sale.

9. New Business:

  • Kathy Weber has asked that the third source funding be highlighted in the newsletter to help parents better understand how it is used.

o Box Tops—Steve White

o Campbell’s Soup Labels—Maradie Milkey

o Econ Receipts—Gery Shelafoe

o Our Family Labels—Susie Wright

o Ink Cartridges—Cheryl Turausky

  • Binders

o They have now been put in the H&S box at the Elementary School.

· Fall Fundraiser

  • Tania Kurzawa will co-chair; we need someone to co-chair the fall fundraiser with her.

10. Adjournment: 8:35p.m. Next meeting scheduled at 6:30pm on Sunday, May 17.
