Class Announcements

NOTES FROM THIRD GRADE

*Update sent home in homework folder for Monday, November 9th*

November 2nd

1) Remember there is no school tomorrow, November 3rd, voting day. The clinic is offered at the high school for H1N1 immunizations from 1-7.

2) How is the poetry homework coming along? It is due next Monday, the 9th. If it is done early, bring it in! I'm anxious to hear the wonderful poetry our students have selected. If you have any questions regarding this assignment, please jot a note in your child's agenda.

3) The homework this week is slightly different from the normal routine. Please note we did not take the spelling test last Friday, so sentences do not need to be repeated again this week. Instead I have sent home a different spelling assignment on the spelling patterns for LONG E.

4) On Thursday students will be taking a 1st Quarter Math Assessment which includes graphing, place-value, some geometry, and basic addition and subtraction (regrouping inlcuded). PLEASE REVIEW THESE SKILLS WITH YOUR CHILD AT HOME. Math homework this week is geometry. It should be a review of skills from 2nd grade with some new information that we are also working on in class. Please let me know if your child is struggling with these skills at home.

5) Congratulations to the students that earned a Book-It award for October. The slip for November will go home this Wednesday. Please continue to keep track of your minutes in your agenda.

October 26th

Welcome back to school! I'm hoping that everyone is well-rested, healthy, and ready for an exciting week ahead. We will take that field trip to the library on Wednesday and would like for you to fill out the new permission slip. Please check your child's agenda for this form. In addition, the homework that was due last Friday has been extended to this Friday without penalty. However, there is EXTRA homework coming home today that is due Friday AND a special project that will not be due until next Friday, the 6th. Please check for those items in your child's agenda as well.

Ms. McFall will be with us until Wednesday due to the cancelled days last week, so we will have a small celebration in the room for her on Tuesday afternoon. We are sad to see her go, but excited for the next adventure awaiting her.

Halloween activities and parade will take place this Friday beginning at 1:00. If you are interested in joining us from 1:00-2:00 and have an activity idea, please contact me by TUESDAY with your idea. If you don't have an idea, but would like to facilitate an activity, please let me know that as well by Tuesday. I do have a special "treat" planned for this day and am looking for the following items to be donated: popped popcorn, latex free rubber gloves or kitchen gloves, candy corn, and m&m's. If you are able to donate any of the above items, please write a note in your child's agenda.

*Remember-the parade is at 2:00-you are welcome to join us outside. Your child must be able to put his/her costume on by themself. School appropriate/non-scary costumes only please. The Spooktacular dance is also in the evening from 6:30-8:00.

Reminders:

*Book orders are due this Friday

*Book-It reading minutes due this Friday--400 or more will get you a pizza coupon

*Mill Pond Park trip cancelled until further notice

*No school on November 3rd

Thanks:

*We have sponges to clean desks every day which is critical during this flu season..thanks for the donation.

*If you are considering a donation, colored copy paper is a great idea. Due to cuts in our budget, this is one item I cannot afford this year.

October 17th

* Last day of MEAP is tomorrow for Math! Please remember to get extra sleep tonight-we will test from 10:00-11:15 and again from 1:15-2:15. Snack will be donated by Raquel, Alexa, and Jesse! Thanks parents for your contribution.

* WEDNESDAY we journey to the library at 9:30 am. Thanks Mrs. Tomczyk for helping chaperone this trip! Students MUST  dress in layers for this trip - coats, hats and mittens please. Comfortable tennis shoes or shoe boots are also recommended as we will be walking.

IF YOUR CHILD ALREADY HAS A LIBRARY CARD AND WISHES TO CHECK OUT BOOKS, PLEASE SEND THE LIBRARY CARD WITH HIM/HER TO SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY. HE/SHE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CARD THE DURATION OF THE TRIP.

Part of the trip will include adding a book to the shelf at the library that has our published poetry in it. Ms. McFall would like to place a picture of the children inside the cover of the book. If you DO NOT  wish to have your child in that picture, please let us know by responding with an e-mail.

*FRIDAY we will spend a beautiful afternoon at Mill Pond Park. Thanks to the numerous parents that have volunteered to chaperone this trip: Mrs. DuCharme, Ms. Weaver, Mrs. Henrie, Mrs. Peless, and Mrs. Roberts. Please meet us at our classroom at 1:00 for directions-we will begin our walk at 1:15.

*Again, students must dress in layers appropriately. We will be outside for about an hour and a half. It could be quite chilly*

*Ms. McFall's last day with us is this Friday! We will have a small celebration to wish her well as she takes her next student teaching placement at Pullen in Kindergarten...thanks for everything Ms. McFall!
