Dear Parents,

I am looking forward to discussing your child’s progress in second grade at conferences next week.  I know parents are very busy with sports, clubs, and other children’s conferences.  I try to stay on schedule when we meet.  If you feel we need to talk longer than fifteen minutes, we can schedule another time to talk.  Thanks for understanding.

We have finished up testing for the end of the marking period.  Students have gone through so much growth in their learning and behavior.  I have noticed that the students who consistently bring back their homework (spelling worksheet, reading/math logs, and Decodable note) are making the most progress.  Even though the Decodable booklet is easy, it truly helps students become fluent.  As students read the Decodables, they can hear their voices with good expression and speed.  Please support your child’s learning by expecting them to complete their homework.

In science, we have some exciting happening.  We planted “Baggie Gardens” to observe the seed growing roots and sprouts.  Today, the students did their first observations of the new growth.  We have also worked on identifying the life cycle of an apple tree.  Important vocabulary words are: seed, sprout, tree, flower, and fruit.  We will be starting our investigations with geranium plants next week.

Spelling Words:  there, their, said, then, some, than, first, its, who, now, people, my

Challenge Words:  country, different, land, live, names

I will not be sending home a newsletter next week, due to conferences.

    Have a great weekend.

                                                 Sincerely,

                                                 Beverly Brown
