Dear Parents,
The Holiday Party is over and most of the snacks are gone. The students loved the nutritious treats that were brought in. Students brought a lot of enthusiasm to our party. A big thank you goes to Mrs. Lapekas, Mrs. Lockerbie, Mrs. Higley, and Mrs. Baynes for coordinating the food and helping with our holiday science project. Thanks go out to Mrs. Graves and Mrs. Boucher for helping at our party as well.
We are finishing up our science unit on plants by reviewing our science journals, life cycle wheels, and a powerpoint on “plant needs and life cycle.” We will finish our observations of the geraniums in January so the students can continue to compare and track the growth of the plants. We will be starting our science unit on measurement and chemistry in January.
In math, we reviewed bar graphs and pictographs using Skittles. Graphing with candy is always fun. The students also worked with line graphs to show “changes over time”, grids, and Venn Diagrams for comparisons.
In January, we will retest students’ oral reading fluency using the DIBELS test. The Mid-Year (January) reading goal is 68 wpm on second grade reading passages. Please make sure your child is reading over the holiday break. Having students practice reading orally always helps, too. We will have two (2) reading logs that need to be completed for December during break. I will send the logs home in the Friday Folders.
