Meet Mrs. Brown

I am looking forward to another wonderful year teaching at Kellogg
Elementary. I came to West Michigan to work as a recreational therapist at
State Technical Institute and Rehabilitation Center on Pine Lake. I have a
Bachelor's degree from MSU in recreation and youth leadership. After I
became a parent, I decided to go to Western to obtain my teaching degree. I
am starting my twelfth year teaching for Gull Lake Community Schools. I
have a Bachelor's degree from Western in Elementary Education with minors in
English, Math and Science, and an Early Childhood Endorsement.
I am married to Chuck Brown so you will see many "Peanuts" characters in
my classroom. We have one son, David, who graduated from Western last
December. David spent a summer in Alaska backpacking and sea kayaking when
he participating in the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). He is a
ski and snowboard technician at Lee's Sporting Goods in Kalamazoo. This
past summer, he worked at the Kalamazoo Nature Center as their off-site camp
leader and this fall he worked at the Battle Creek Outdoor Education
Center. Currently, along with Lee's, David is working in the Outreach program
at the Kalamazoo Nature Center. He loves to be outside!
My hobbies and interests include quilting, bike riding, camping, reading,
science, and family activities. During the summer, you can usually find me
at the Kalamazoo Area Mathematics and Science Center (KAMSC) teaching summer
science classes. During the winter, I try to attend many WMU hockey games.
I love to watch the Red Wings!
I look forward to becoming acquainted with my students' families during
this school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to
contact me.
