About Miss Freling

(Miss Freling and her dog Bailey)

Miss Freling was born in upstate New York, but grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago, where she graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School.  During high school Miss Freling figure skated competitivly, played field hockey, participated on the gymnastics team, played soccer, and was invloved in her church youth group serving as a leader for the church's confirmation class.

Miss Freling was attracted to southwest Michigan at the age of 8 when she took first place at Western's Lawson Ice Arena during a skating competition.  She told friends and family that she would be back someday to go to college.  True to her word, she came to southwest Michigan to go to college, and to skate on Western Michigan University's synkronized skating team just ten years later.

Miss Freling graduated from WMU in December of 2004, with a BA of Science in Education, and her Early Childhood Endoursement. While attending college Miss Freling majored in Elementary Education, and had minors in Math, Science, Early Childhood Education, and Art Education.  In January of 2005, Miss Freling began to work on her Masters Degree at WMU in the field of Educational Technology.

Prior to coming to Gull Lake Community Schools, Miss Freling worked across the street from Kellogg Elementary at the Michigan State W.K. Kellogg Biological Station teaching the youth science program. She really enjoys getting in touch with nature and learning new and interesting things about science.

Miss Freling's favorite thing about being a teacher is EVERYTHING! She loves to stand by the door in the morning and greet her students, and especially enjoys creating meaningful and fun lessons to teach.  She looks forward to the monthly school spirit days when her class can dress up, or do silly things like changing names. But, she thinks that it comes with a special message,  that "another month of our school year has passed and we've marked additional milestones with our learning adventures. "

During the spring months, Miss Freling can be found on Kellogg's playground with her running shoes.  Miss Freling became a certified Girls On The Run coach in 2004, and has been running ever since.  She enjoys being a coach for the messages that it sends the young girls in the program, "We are all beautiful and strong ladies, cabable of anything we set our minds to." Miss Freling also loves to sing songs and cheer on her team and co-coaches while running.

Miss Freling enjoys just about everything! In her free time, she likes to read all types of literature, work on the computer, take photographs, participate in athletics, spend time with friends & family, play with her golden retriever, and spend as much time as possible with her favorite four legged animal, the horse. She also LOVES to travel and be adventerous. Her last adventure included a nightime hike to the lava flow on the big island of Hawaii; where she watched the lava flowing into the ocean for hours. Can you guess Miss Freling's favorite color?
