Dear Parents,

With the hustle and bustle of this busy month and our busy days, I’ve decided on a homework calendar. This is a great way for your child to reinforce the skills that we’re doing at school and each assignment is quick! It can also be a form of completing tasks at home independently. This is so crucial. I’ve noticed that we need a little practice with our personal responsibility.

There may be a few additional assignments on Friday’s but this is it for the most part. Thank you for your help with this. Please choose 3-5 assignments each week and initial each box after the assignment is complete. Your child can certainly complete them all and I’d be happy to see that, but I know that you’re pretty busy. Also, on Friday’s when the decodable books come home I strongly encourage you to read them with your child, or put them in a place where your child can find them easily for practice.

So, when is the calendar due?

The first day back to school the following month, please return this calendar to school and your child will put a sticker on an incentive chart. When the chart is filled up, we’ll celebrate!

FUTURE Thoughts:

In January we’ll begin a regular homework calendar for each month, combined with spelling, and some math. (Due dates will be posted on the calendar, so that should help!) Spelling must be completed on Tuesday nights and, will be due on each Wednesday beginning right after break!

As always your feedback is 100% appreciated and welcomed. Thank you for your help in getting this going. I’d love to know your thoughts and how you think its working. This is something new for me too, and I’m trying to find the best way to meet our needs and get the practice that we need across the curriculum.

Yours in Learning,

Kari Freling
