What is the best way to reach Miss Jones?
Email is the best way to reach me (mjones@gulllakecs.org). I
check my email several times throughout the day. You can also
write me a note (in the agenda, paper, etc.) or call me at
school. I will return your call after school or if I have time
during the school day.
What kind of homework assignments will my child have?
* Students will have math assignments on a regular basis. Often
they will have time to start their assignment in class, but may
need to finish and check it over at home.
* Students will also occasionally have homework in other subjects
(spelling, science, social studies, etc.). Check the newsletters
and website for test dates.
*All unfinished classwork also becomes homework and should be
turned in the next day.
*Students will complete one book project per marking period.
*It is also important that students have daily reading
opportunities at home as well as at school.
How can I find out my child's academic progress or check for missing work?
Grades are posted weekly on our class website. Just go to
the Grades section, type in your child's last name and
password and you will be able to view your child's overall grades
(so far) as well as individual test/quiz/assignment scores.
Check also for assignments that are missing(mi), past due (pd) or
have not been done (nd).
What is Accelerated Reader?
Accelerated Reader is a program where students read books and
take quizzes on the computer to test their comprehension. Based
on the results of the STAR Reading test the students took, a ZPD
(Zone of Proximal Development) range was generated for each
student. This ZPD is a recommended range of book levels that
should be "just right" for the student. At the back of
each student's agenda, you'll find his/her first marking period
ZPD range and Accelerated Reader point goal. Students should
select books within their ZPD to read and take quizzes on,
striving for a comprehension score of 85% or above.
What is the Late Homework Policy?
The fifth grade Late Homework Policy is as follows:
Homework turned in one day late = -20%
Homework turned in two or more days late = 0%
Please make sure your child is putting assigned work in his/her
homework folder and returning it to school each day.
How many students are in this year's class?
We have 26 students in our class this year.
Will students be switching classes this year?
Yes. Mrs. Ells and I will be teaming this year. Mrs. Ells will
teach Reading and I will teach Math. We will both instruct our
own classes in Science, Social Studies and Writing.
