Super Second Grade

November 13, 2009

  • Wow! What a  whirlwind of a month!  Our class was lucky to have our picture taken with Greg Mortenson, author of the Three Cups OF Tea. Look for the picture on our site soon.  Since it's a new marking period we have a new seating arrangement. We've changed partners for Literacy Workstations (at reading time), too.

  • Math flashcards will start to come home.  Only a few pages are coming home at a time. The facts are in order of what we've been working on for rocket math. Rocket math is individualized math fact time. Each student has to meet or exceed their goal in a one minute timed drill to be able to move on to a new level (with new facts). We work on facts about three times a week in math stations, after whole group math time.
  • Parent teacher conferences are next week. Just a reminder there is no school on Thursday and Friday.

    Special points of interest:
  •  I will not be able to attend our music program on December 8. This is the same night as my class at WMU. I  can't cancel this class as it is the last class before final exam week.  So, Mrs. Renne, from our math lab, and Mrs. Maddox, from our computer lab, will help line the students up and get them on stage.  If I could have a few parents help and/or take pictuers I would greatly appreciate it!  I like to get the students' pictures in their costumes.
  • Please make sure to set aside at leat 15 minutes a night for reading and 10 minutes for math fact practice a night.  I will be starting reading and math flashcard contracts soon.
  • Our class was lucky to be selected to write letters to Santa for the Kalamazoo Gazette.  On December 12, in the special Hometown section, some of our letters will be published.

Sometimes we are forgetful about snacks. If anyone would like to donate extra snacks we would greatly appreciate it!
