The 2008-09 school year is my 13th as a teacher. I am in my 5th year
at Howell High School and have previously taught in Tawas, MI and Austin,
Texas. In addition to teaching US history, world history, and ap
psychology, I am co-
sponsor
of the Howell Model United Nations Club and am the boys junior varsity
tennis coach.
I am married (to a Howell graduate, Sally) and have a 4-year-old daughter
(Eva Margaret) and an infant daughter (Nina Simone) in
addition
to a chocolate lab and two cats. I am a Michigan State and University of
Florida graduate and like to read, play tennis, and disc golf.
Some of my favorite...
books: East of Eden (Steinbeck), The Sea Wolf (London), Burr (Vidal),
A Prayer for Owen Meany (Irving), Atlas Shrugged (Rand),
Breakfast of Champions (Vonnegut), Don't Stop the Carnival
(Wouk), Year of Wonders (Brooks)
music: Jimmy Buffett, Rolling Stones, Todd Snider, Bob Marley,
Willie Nelson
movies: Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, Blues Brothers, Old School,
Best In Show, The Royal Tennenbaums
The mission I set for my students is to learn to ask why and pursue answers
by thinking critically. Students must learn to have opinions based on
fact. In social studies we have the unique opportunity to ask questions to
which we are able to construct our own answers. Students will learn to go
through this process responsibly and to come up with their own "missions".
