Mr. Korpi began teaching band and general music in the Ishpeming School
District in the fall of 1998. He earned a BA degree from Mount Vernon
Nazarene College, Mount Vernon, Ohio, then received his professional teacher
certification from Northern Michigan University. During the summer months,
Mr. Korpi is working on his Masters in Music Education from Vandercook
College of Music, located in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Korpi loves to perform
on various instruments along with the students as well as teach music. He
resides in Ishpeming with his wife, Carey, and three wonderful daughters,
Melissa, Jenna, Hanna, and a golden retriever, Buddy. Mr. Korpi likes old
pontiacs, motorcycles, hunting, watching the Detroit Tigers when they're
winning, and watching Star Trek. He is also a Lion's fan, not a Packer
Backer.
The Mission of the Ishpeming District Schools Band Program is to empower
students to perform, enjoy, and understand music through a comprehensive
curriculum, in keeping with each child's interests, needs, and abilities,
contributing to the culture of the community.
