Mr. Korpi began teaching band and general music in the Ishpeming School
District in the fall of 1998. He earned a BA degree from Mount Vernon
Nazarene College, Mount Vernon, Ohio, then received his professional teacher
certification from Northern Michigan University. Mr. Korpi has studied for
his Masters' in Music Education from Vandercook College of Music, located in
Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Korpi loves to perform on various instruments along
with the students as well as teach music. He resides in Ishpeming with his
wife, Carey, and three beautiful daughters, Melissa, Jenna, and Hanna. Sadly,
the family dog, Buddy, passed away last January. Mr. Korpi likes motorcycles,
hunting, going to camp, watching the Detroit Tigers when they're winning, and
watching Star Trek. He is also a Lion's fan, not a Packer Backer.
The Mission of the Ishpeming District Schools Band Program is to empower
students to understand, perform, and enjoy music through a comprehensive
curriculum, in keeping with each child's interests, needs, and abilities,
contributing to the culture of the community.
