A little on O.E.
Ithaca has a wonderful team, but we did not play our best game tonight. Once
again we had a solid second half, but Ithaca made us pay for a lackluster
first half. I think that we had a let down after facing Flint Powers and by
the time we got our heads into this game it was too late. I want to focus on
how far we came this season, after a poor opening loss to start the season we
were able to finish third in our conference, beat Flint Powers and make it to
the district finals. A 13-6-2 record is something that we can be proud
of. Also consider that five of those six losses came against #10 Freeland
and
District Champions Ithaca, who should be ranked. We made huge strides this
year and I couldn't be more proud of what we were able to accomplish.
I want to thank all of the players for their hard work and effort this year.
I also want to thank the fire department and emergency response vehicles for
sending us off today. Lastly, I have to thank the parents, none of what was
accomplished could have been done without your efforts. To our foreign
exchange seniors, Juan, Stephen, and Maros, thank you for participating, it
was great having you on the team. To our two home town Seniors Phil and
Brian, congratulations on a great season. You two helped to bring this team
farther than many people thought possible. Hold your heads high, you can be
proud of what you did. I am.

I have to start with how proud I am of our entire soccer team. They showed
a lot of determination after a lackluster start. We couldn't even muster a
shot in the first half and we seemed to be losing every 50/50 ball. Quite
honestly I was happy to be down by only	one at the half. It very easily
could have been worse. However, a different team came out of our dugout in
the second half. A team that any coach would be proud of. They fought for
every loose ball and worked much better as a team. They began to connect on
passes and get many scoring opportunities. However, we were still down by
one with under four minutes left. Keifer was able to get a beautiful cross
into a dangerous area where Brian was able to finish. We were able to score
on a set play just outside of the 18 onlyfour minutes into the overtime
period. Assisted by Keifer Hall and Brian Grecu Phil Ching truly scored a
Golden Goal. Many players played extremely well tonight, but the outcome
might have been different if we didn't have Cody Strapec in net for us
tonight, he stood on his head for us.

A little on O.E.
I am very pleased with how well we played tonight. If we can play up to our
potential we may be able to give Flint Powers a run in the second round of
districts. Although we played as a team, there were also a lot of terrific
individual efforts. Cody Strapec was outstanding in net and his defense in
front of him did well to limit the number of shots of two very dangerous
players. Our defense was tough and was able to get to all loose balls to
clear. Our midfield, led by Phil Ching and Bryce Leveille did a good job of
controlling play. However, I have to give a lot of credit to our strikers
who
once again found their touch around the net. Keifer Hall and Brian Grecu did
a
tremendous job of finishing tonight. Then they showed that they were true
team players; in the second half after having built a two goal lead they took
turns marking New Haven's biggest threat, effectively ending the game.
Congratulations to all on a great game. Also, thank you to the fans and
future players who took the time to come down and support us. Your support
is
greatly appreciated.

We simply had trouble finishing tonight. I think that for the most part we
did a good job of controlling play. I felt that their biggest offensive
threat kept coming after their keeper made a save on us and then he simply
kicked a long ball to his striker. We are trying to play quick, but are
often
loosing possession when we try to play too quick. We need to clean up our
passing and figure out how to shoot once again if we expect to make any head
way in district play.

I think that we played very well tonight. We knew that we would have our
hands full with the #10 team in the state, but everyone stepped up to the
challenge. Our defense played great all night. One goal for them came off
of a teriffic shot and the second was a simple lack of communication in the
defensive end. Our defense, led by Matt Conley and Cody Strapec, did well
to hold them to two goals. We were able to produce many good scoring
opportunities, but were only able to capitalize on one. Against a team like
that, you have to take advantage of your chances. We showed great
enthusiasm and hustle and proved that we are continuing to improve. I want
to thank the parents for coming out tonight to show their support. A loss
is a loss, but we can take a lot of positives from this game.

FROM FREELAND COACH in the SAGINAW NEWS

Freeland boys soccer holds off Ovid_Elsie, 2-1
The Saginaw News, October 07, 2009 9:17 p.m.
Freeland improved to 13-1-1 with a 2-1 win at Ovid-Elsie on Wednesday.
The Falcons led 2-0 on goals from Brendan Hoff and Nate Kravat, but the
Marauders pulled within one goal and threatened late.
"I was a little nervous over the last five minutes," Freeland coach Kyle Jean
said. "But we're getting close to playoff time, and it was nice to have a
team
starting to push us a little more."

Keifer Hall had a very good night for us tonight. Every year Laingsburg is
a tough matchup
for us. I was glad to come out of there with a win against a team that is
better than their
record leads on. We are beginning to pass the ball very well as a team. We
did really well
towards the end of the game of getting the ball outside and then back in to
dangerous
positions. Our defense once again played very well. Blade Thornton and Joe
Hehrer played
exceptionally well on defense. Crashing the net and filling into space
really helped us to win
this game tonight. Cody Strapec was also key in our win tonight while
earning his first
complete game shut-out.

Once again our defense played extremely well. I am very pleased with how
they are coming
together down the stretch, their play is key. Joe Hehrer's return from
injury has been key to
our success, he played extremely well tonight. Bryce Leveille was all over
the field for us
tonight. He has a very aggressive style of play that is fun to watch. We
did a good job of
matching Ithaca's physical play and winning more than our share of 50/50
balls. Although
we were hoping for a win, we can take some positives from this game. We
lost to Ithaca at
home 5-0 earlier in the season, so we have shown some great improvement. I
can honestly
say that we controlled play for the better half of the game and had our
opportunities. Late
in the second half their goalie made a great save and so did his post.

A little on O.E.
We have developed a problem of playing just as good as we need to. We need
to work on
coming out every game with the same level of consistency. We started off
the game with a
bang and then fell into a lull for the rest of it. Several players did have
nice finishes, Brian
Grecu and Bryce Leveille in particular had outstanding goals.

Although we did not get the desired outcome, I did get the play that I
desire from my team.
They played really well tonight, we dominated the possession and won nearly
all of the 50/50 balls.
We passed the ball really well and played great as a team and I couldn't ask
for anything more.

stringing passes

I think that we played very well tonight. Freeland has an outstanding team

they are very well coached. They should have a nice run again this year. I
was proud of the

We did a better job of passing tonight, it really helped to open things up
for our strikers. Our counter attack was working well. We could have done a
better job of finishing tonight. However, I was most happy to see our guys
keep their cool in the second half after allowing an early goal to make it a
one goal game. Also, being called for 22 penalties in a game when you
average less than six per game can also be trying. It was a great team
effort tonight and Phil Ching helped tremendously in leading the charge.
Chesaning is a good team and continues to improve. They have one of the
best players in the league, in Brandon Aldridge	and I was happy to get out
of there with a win tonight.

It is always nice to get a win against a solid opponent as we did tonight.

tonight. It was a good

It was said that Ithaca would probably be the class of the league this year
and they proved it.
We did not take advantage of early opportunities and Ithaca did, that was
the difference in the
game. They have several outstanding players, but they play really well as a
team. They were
more physical than us and took advantage of their opportunities. We need to
do a better job of
communicating on defense and passing accurately on offense and throughout
the midfield.
Cody Strapic did well for his first time in net and Bryce Leveille had an
outstanding game.

I can't say that we played extremely well tonight. I am definitely happy
with the outcome,
but our passing and communication are going to have to improve if we intend
to compete
for the conference title. Cody Strapic came up big for us today on the
field, he was impressive
in his first ever game. Blade Thornton had an excellent night in defense
and Brian Grecu
once again stood out on the attack. The play of the game came from Phil
Ching, after Brian
made a great play to save the ball, Ching vollied a shot which the keeper
saved, headed the
rebound which again the keeper saved, vollied the rebound, which was blocked
in front of the net
by a defender and headed that rebound up and over everybody into the net.
All of which took place
in about three to four seconds, now that is how you stick with a play.
