My name is Ron Hoepfner and I teach Social Studies and am very excited about
my work here at North Middle School and would like to share a little about
myself. In April 2007 I will revieve a Masters Degree in "Education With a
Focus on Integrating Technology" from Walden University via the Internet. I
graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree and
teaching certificate in 2002. During my schooling I had the opportunity to
substitute teach second through ninth grade for two years for both the Van
Buren and Ypsilanti Public School Districts. Lastly, a summer camp couselor
for the Ann Arbor Salvation Army for three summers.
I am looking forward to teaching your child this year and implementing all
that I have learned. I will be a role model of life long learning for your
child. There will be very high expectations placed upon students both
academically and behaviorally in Social Studies class. I plan to take your
child above and beyond those expectations.
I have many interests including playing hockey and fishing. I have caught
just about every species of fish in our Great Lakes region except Muskie. I
just recently added my first Steel Head to my list of fish and a true river
22 inch Brown Trout that only weighed 4 pounds (if caught in a lake it
would have been around 8). I love salmon, trout and walleye fishing the
most. These are my favorites at the dinner table. Hockey unfortunately is
a lot more difficult for me, but i truly enjoy it. I have yet to master
skating fast while carrying the puck and skating backwards with any kind of
speed. Oh well, just happy to be physically active.
My mission is to connect with my students in ways that will enable them to
work with me and not against me. I will do whatever is necessary to get
involved with my students on a personal level. Visiting them during art,
music, gym and lunch is a must. I will watch their basketball, volleyball,
and football games. I will find a way to connect to the disconnected.
My mission is to make school as interesting and fun as possible. I
will bring enthusiasm and real life applications to all that we do in
class.
The smile and enthusiasm I have will be infectious to those around me.
Children will laugh with me when I make a joke or say something funny to see
if they are listening. Students will want to be in my class and learning.
My mission is to teach students respect. Respect for themselves,
others and the history we are learning. Students will show respect for
others in my classroom. Respect is an attitude that I must demonstrate and
share with my students.
