4th Graders Make Homemade Instruments!
The KSO/Gilmore Project for our fourth graders will be December 4th during
regular music class times. The fourth graders will be working with Gabriel
Renteria, principal oboe in the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. For this
program, students need to make a musical instrument at home. This can be
anything from a milk jug shaker to a shoebox string bass, to a xylophone made
of PVC pipes or wood. I’m sure there will be many creative instruments
coming to class. Please make sure your student has their name and class
somewhere on the instrument.
Instruments are due in the music room on November 17th. We will be writing a
musical composition using our homemade instruments. We will also write a
part for Mr. Renteria to play. When he comes to our music classes on
December 4th, we will perform our music together. Parents are invited to
attend the December performances, which are scheduled during regular music
times.
If you have any questions, please call or email me at school.
We're not the only ones making our own instruments. Go to this
site to look at some amazing instruments. Maybe it will give you
some ideas!
