What if I’m late for school or class? Teachers are understanding the first week or so of school, but after that you will be marked tardy and there will be consequences like lunch detentions and calls home if your tardies are a problem. What if I miss the bus? See one of the teachers doing bus duty. They will let you make a call in the office. How do I find my bus? There will be signs out front showing you which way to go to find your bus. Be sure to know the ROUTE number, not the BUS number! What do I do if I can’t get my locker open? Slow down, clear it completely and try it again. Ask a nearby teacher for help or a key. You may need to get a custodian if it is jammed. When can I go to my locker? You may go to your locker before school, before and after lunch and at the end of the day. Your teachers will need to give you permission to go any other time. You must show Power Pride by being respectful and QUIET in the halls at ALL times; other classes are working!! What is lunch like? Is the food good? I think you will really like lunch at Power! The food is great! There are a ton of choices and you have a chance to have recess and socialize a bit! You can bring or buy lunch. You can put money in a lunch account so you don’t have to bring money each day. What should I do if I’m having a problem with a friend/classmate/student??? Talk to the person calmly and privately, see you counselor. Go to the guidance office and fill out a request to see your counselor, GO BACK TO CLASS and they will call you done when they can see you. What should I do if I’m having trouble with a teacher? Talk to the teacher calmly and privately, see your counselor. What should I do if I’m doing poorly in a class? Talk to your parents and your teacher. Be prepared to make some changes in your study habits –make a specific homework time, arrange to study with a trusted classmate, etc…. What should I do if I am absent for a long time because of an illness or a vacation?? Homework will not be given prior to family vacations taken during district scheduled school days. It will be collected for the student when he/she is absent. Much of the instruction and learning occurs in class, through discussion, hands-on experiments, simulations, for example, that can not be duplicated at home for homework. Homework assignments can be picked up when he/she returns. Students will be allowed one day to complete the assignment for every day of absence unless a different arrangement has been made with the teacher. If there is an illness, the work can be picked up from the school the following day. You must be able to remove everything at the end of the year. Can I bring my cell phone to school? What happens if I forget to leave it in my locker? NO!!!!! If you bring a phone, it MUST stay in your locker and be turned OFF!!!! If a teacher hears or sees a phone they will take it and a parent will need to get it from Mr. Anderson or Mrs. Boyd in the office. What if I forget my lunch or my homework? You will need to come to the main office and check the cart in front of the counter. The office staff will NOT call you to come and get something and they will NOT deliver items to you in class. YOU must get it between classes. What specials will I have? Gym, Art, Band/Orchestra/Choir, Music, World Languages What is recess like? During part of your lunch you will be able to go outside and play basketball, 4 square or on the playground equipment. All our Power Pride expectations are noticed on the playground! Will we have class parties or birthday parties? There are not holiday or birthday parties in the classroom as in lower elementary school. However teachers will celebrate events each in their own way. Can I get breakfast at school? Yes! Power offers an wonderful breakfast for purchase each morning. You must plan to arrive in time to enjoy all of your breakfast in the cafeteria, as NO FOOD is aloud outside of the cafeteria. You will NOT be allowed to bring your breakfast food items to your class, nor should you be late to class to finish eating breakfast!! Can I bring a drink to class? Water only!!!! Can I chew gum in school? NO!!
