I went back to school to become a teacher after spending many years in
higher education as an academic counselor. When we moved to Pennsylvania, I
transferred numerous credits from three other colleges to Kutztown
University of Pennsylvania. I really enjoyed being back in school full-time.
In May of 2000, I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Secondary Education-Social Studies. After twenty years, it was
time to have a new career and I was ready finally to be a teacher. I have
not regretted my career change one minute. Teaching is my vocation, my
calling. I feel complete when I am with my students and in the environment
of an active classroom that we create together. Currently, I am also a
graduate student at the University of Michigan/Flint where I am working on a
master's degree in social studies.
On a personal note, I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Ken
Fuhr, for thirty-four years. We have two sons, Matthew and Timothy. Matt is a
graduate of the University of Illinois with a BS in history. He is currently
working with Chase Manhattan in Chicago. He is married to Kristin, who is a
nurse, and they have a boxer, Trinity. Tim is a 2009 graduate of Georgia
Southern University in Statesboro, GA with a BS in Business-Finance. Mr. Fuhr
owns a business in Michigan and Georgia that is involved in the same
industry that he has been in for twenty-three years, product fundraising. The
company is called Norstar Associates, Inc. and is made up of several veteran
fundraisers, like himself, who want to change the industry for the better,
especially for the schools.
We also have one dog, Lucy, who is a Yorkshire Terrier that we inherited
from my mother. Besides taking care of a large yard of flowers, I also like
to travel, read (I read a plethora of books),visit historical sites, and
plan exciting opportunites for my students to experience.
I believe that every student has an opportunity to learn and to become a
valuable citizen of our great nation, and the world. Through an active,
enriched, and academically challenging classroom, these goals can be met for
all students. It is my goal to make this mission a reality.
