Broadcast Journalism
The 8th Grade have started a Broadcast Journalism class at St. Paul. They create a news show for all the students to view. The students are rotating through the various roles - newscaster, weather person, sportscaster, videographer, director, editor and feature reporters. The students have been enjoying this experience and have learned some valuable lifeskills about deadlines, teamwork and patience!
Written Journalism
The 7th grade students produce the SPAN school newsletter each marking period. Students are responsible for collecting information and writing an article. Two editors work together for each edition to design the layout, edit articles and produce the final copy.
6th Grade
The 6th grade students work on a variety of Microsoft programs to complete classroom projects. They learn new skills and perfect old ones to create the school directory cover, Power Point presentations, spreadsheets and graphs. They also learn all about digital cameras, getting the best shot, editing their photos and using their photos in different programs.
5th Grade
The 5th grade students work on a variety of Microsoft programs to complete classroom projects. They learn new skills and perfect old ones to create acrostic poems, reports on explorers, spreadsheets and graphs. They also use the Journey North website to gather clues to find where 10 mystery cities are located around the globe. Journey North sends clues each week so the students can eventually find the longitude and latitude for each city. The students also work with clay, digital cameras, backgrounds, music and PowerPoint to complete a claymation project.
4th Grade
The 4th grade students continue to learn about Microsoft Word and all the possibilities available with this software. They learn how to use the digital camera and place pictures within a document when they create a Wanted Poster about themselves and a newsletter about their family. They also learn how to create a MS PowerPoint presentation and begin creating graphs with MS Excel.
3rd Grade
The 3rd grade students begin working on their typing skills. As they progress through the keyboard, they improve their accuracy and speed. The students also use MS Word to create, edit and publish documents. The students begin to learn how to use the Internet for research projects.
2nd Grade
The 2nd grade students continue to explore the keyboard and use KidPix to create many masterpieces througout the year. They work many weeks on a "Directions" slideshow and bring their parents in for a special showing.
1st Grade
The 1st grade students continue to explore the ins and outs of the computer. They work with KidPix to reinforce their classroom work. They also take pictures with the digital camera and use their picture to create a slide in the class' Alphabet PowerPoint slideshow.
Kindergarten
The Kindergarten students begin by exploring software games to learn how to properly use the mouse, insert CD's, start and shut down software. As the year progresses, the students begin to use the KidPix program to reinforce classroom topics and begin typing words with the keyboard.
