Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, was a military hero because of actions done in Africa. He based Cub Scouting on one of the stories in Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book. It was called “Mowgli’s Brothers.” We know it as “The Story of Akela and Mowgli.” In the story of the Jungle Book, Mowgli wandered into the jungle and was saved by a family of wolves. The wolves named the boy Mowgli which means, little frog, because the boy’s skin was a smooth and hairless as a frog’s. In the tradition of the Jungle Book, Akela (ah-KAY-la) leads the Cub Scouts. Take some time this month and read the story of Mowgli and friends. The stories of the Jungle Book are found in the opening parts of the Wolf Cub Scout and the Bear Cub Scout handbook.

Mrs. Voto has asked for the Cub Scouts of St. Pius X to hand out door hanger flyers to the local neighbors to inform them about the recycling dumpsters. Plans are for the Cub Scouts to fill this need in the next few weeks. Contact Mrs. Voto or Marsha Kessler for further information.
