At the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year the computer lab was equipped with a new server, the latest server software, Microsoft Office 10 AND faster Internet. Learning Office 10 is going very well for us. Some classes will begin using Microsoft Publisher in January for the first time.
Student Internet Access
Students at St. Pius X School have Internet access from classrooms and the computer lab. We are on the Internet for research, supplemental information and to access our reading and math series websites. There is a content filter installed on our network and students are never allowed to be online without an adult in the room. Student e-mail is not permitted.
All Families-Acceptable Use Policy
If you have not read, signed and returned a copy of the Diocesan Acceptable Use Policy by September 8th, please note that our diocese suggests that your child may not use the school computers until a copy is filed in the office. A copy should have been received on Business Day or you may download a copy from at www.spxparish.com. Please read it over with your child before signing but know that the information on the AUP will be discussed and explained to students during class time as well. Young children need to know that the policy asks them to treat all computers with care and should also write their name on the form.
You are also asked to sign our Internet Permission Form that allows students’ pictures to appear in the school album pages of our parish website. The photo album can be found at www.spxparish.com. Click on St. Pius X School, Photo Album to see how we display the pictures.Click on the URL below to view our St. Pius X School Photo Gallery. http://spxparish.com/photogallery.htm
Computer Software/Hardware Donations
We are always very happy to accept donations of educational PC software that your children have outgrown, especially preschool software that runs on Windows XP. Computers are also welcomed. The office can supply you with a donation form for tax purposes.
Ink Cartridge and Cell Phone Donations
We welcome your donated used printer ink cartridges and old cell phones (no cables or batteries necessary) for recycling. Your empty ink cartridges donations last year resulted in almost $400 in free ink cartridges for school and office use.8th Grade Baby Pictures
Each year 8th graders are requested to bring two baby or toddler pictures to school within the first three weeks. These will be scanned and safely returned to parents at the first parent teacher conference. The pictures will be used for a project for graduation that we would like to start on now!
Touch Typing for Grades 4 – 8
Free websites for touch typing practice can be found by doing a search for "free touch typing programs." One of our goals is for students from 4th through 8th grades to be proficient in touch typing. Typing helps students create professional looking papers and projects with less effort.
