Tomorrow we are watching a movie called "A Series of Unfortunate Events." In
reading class we did a media study where we looked at how camera angles, music
and special effects add to the setting and conflict of a movie. We also
compared how books that become movies are alike and different and which one we
like better and why. SO, since we are watching a movie at the end of the day
(the other six classes of 6th grade did this before the end of first quarter),
kids are allowed to bring in pop and treats for themselves. It is NOT
required, but the kids asked if they could, so they CAN!

Spelling: There will be no Spelling, Reading or Word Wise this week. We will
be working on our famous person papers in class. Our due date for this
assignment (a good, revised copy) will be due no later than Wednesday,
November 17.
Language: Today we worked on writing and typing our introductions and
conclusions. They need to be added to their papers by Friday. The intro needs
to start with an important fact, short story or questions--something that
grabs the readers attention. The next two or so sentences can explain how the
attention grabber relates to the person they are writing about. The last
sentence is the sentence that tells us about who the reader will read about
(the thesis in a sense). The conclusion sums up the paper with a statement
about the person, something to think about, the person's memory, legacy, etc.
The thesis must be restated (can be reworded). Both the intro and conclusion
are shorter paragraphs--4-5 sentences. Please do not use the words "I, may, or
you" in these paragraphs. It is not an opinion paper.
Science: Response sheet on magnets--due Friday.

Spelling: There will be no Spelling, Reading or Word Wise this week. We will
be working on our famous person papers in class. Our due date for this
assignment (a good, revised copy) will be due no later than Wednesday,
November 17.
Language: All three body paragraphs must be typed by Thursday. There should be
a background/family/personal characteristics paragraph, a paragraph on
struggles and/or conflicts and a paragraph on accomplishments (what made this
person famous!!) Some kids did not take enough notes and are having a hard
time--they will need to find some additional information. On Tuesday, as a
class, we came up with three or four options for topic sentences. I have
noticed that some students did not write these down. Everything written in
each paragraph has to relate to the topic sentences(in our case, sentence #1
in each paragraph).

finishing up. We'll correct in class tomorrow and get set up for a lab on
Wednesday (we'll be going over all the directions carefully!). TH-Mon of next
