About The Teacher

Hello, let me tell you a little about myself. This is my 31st year as a 
teacher, and my 29th year in Canby. I've taught all grades, K - 6 with the 
exception of first grade, and I definitely think fourth grade is the most fun!

Do you remember how great it was to be nine or ten? The students are very 
interested and curious, in the prime of childhood - full of fun, and at times 
just silly. Fourth graders are great!

I also share that glorious rural small town childhood with many of you. I 
grew up on my family's farm in Montevideo. My family is also heavily invested 
in education. My mother was a Middle School English teacher, my brother 
teaches math, science, and computer science at Mccray, and my husband was a 
social sciences and phy. ed. teacher before becoming Canby's superintendent. 
We have often joked that we could cover all areas K-12 if we were to open 
our own school.

Loren and I have two children. My daughter, Emily, 26, graduated from SDSu 
and is nursing at mayo in Rochester. Her job is challenging as a float nurse 
since she works on almost every unit, and doesn't know her assignment until 
she reaches work each day.

My son, Evan, 22, is a college student at NDSU majoring in social science 
education. He has had to refocus his passion from wrestling to hunting since 
a back injury forced him to retire from wrestling. He is currently waiting 
for his employee discount to "kick in" at Scheels.

For the first time in many years, we were unable to travel as a family due to 
conflicting schedules this summer. Loren and I did manage to take in the 
Twins at Milwaukee, visit the Milwaukee Art museum, the Pabst Mansion, cruise 
Lake Michigan by fireworks, and see A Chorus Line during a brief summer trip. 
I look forward to a wonderful school year, and I am looking forward to 
sharing this experience with my new teaching partner, Bobbi Jo Morris.
