MINUTES

Monday May 18, 2009

 

The School Board of Independent School District 252 met in regular session, Monday May 18, 2009, in the Boardroom of the Elementary School.  Present: Bob Brintnall, Cathy Banks, Pat Dougherty, Bill Thompson, Brenda Owens and Jerry Reinardy.  Others present: Superintendent Todd Sesker, Beth Giese, Steve Fredrickson, Josh Davisson, Lori Hanson, Dave Davisson, Rollie Sessions, Terry Ruud, Nora Felton, Bryson Felton, Kristin Hanson, Randy Schneider, Dawn Wettern, and Judy.

 

1.                   The meeting was called to order by Chair, Bob Brintnall at 7:00 p.m.

 

2.                   Moved by Pat Dougherty, seconded by Cathy Banks and unanimously approved the agenda, switching the order of G&F and moving item M to the 1^st action item under new business.

 

3.                   Moved by Pat Dougherty, seconded by Brenda Owens and unanimously approved the minutes from Monday April 27, 2009.

 

4.                   Moved by Cathy Banks, seconded by Bill Thompson and unanimously approved the Finance Report.  Next years tax shift could be 77% up front, we will be cash flow borrowing next year.

 

5.                   Moved by Pat Dougherty, seconded by Jerry Reinardy and unanimously approved the fundraisers for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

6.                   Moved by Cathy Banks, seconded by Jerry Reinardy and unanimously approved the consent agenda which included the Food Service Report.

 

7.                   Moved by Jerry Reinardy, seconded by Bill Thompson unanimously approved Expenditures for April.

 

8.                   Moved by Pat Dougherty, seconded by Bill Thompson and unanimously approved the Final Budget for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

9.                   Moved by Bill Thompson, seconded by Pat Dougherty and unanimously approved the Audit firm of Abdo Eick & Meyer LLP for $15,000 as recommended by Bill Thompson for 2009-2010.

 

10.                Moved by Brenda Owens, seconded by Jerry Reinardy and unanimously approved to hire Sue Rheingans as interim Community Ed Director through June 30^th, 2009.

 

11.                Moved by Cathy Banks, seconded by Pat Dougherty and unanimously approved to contract the Community Education License with Red Wing for $15,000.

 

12.                Moved by Cathy Banks, seconded by Bill Thompson and unanimously approved Hilde as our Actuary firm for 2009-2010, for $6,000.

 

13.                Moved by Bill Thompson, seconded by Brenda Owens and unanimously approved the 2009-2010 Venture Contract.

 

14.                Moved by Bill Thompson, seconded by Jerry Reinardy and unanimously approved the garbage disposal with Gibson Sanitation for 2009-2010 for $1,338.62/month.

 

15.                Moved by Pat Dougherty, seconded by Brenda Owens and unanimously approved the Mentor program with Kay Sabin for 2009-2010. 

 

16.                Moved by Bill Thompson, seconded by Cathy Banks and unanimously approved to hire Anne Fick as the Alternative Learning Center Director.

 

17.                Moved by Pat Dougherty, seconded by Bill Thompson and unanimously approved the resolution to award the sale of lease purchase bonds for the elementary roof project.

Voting Yes: Jerry Reinardy, Pat Dougherty, Cathy Banks, Bill Thompson, Brenda Owens, Bob Brintnall

Voting No: None

Absent: None

 

18.                Moved by Jerry Reinardy, seconded by Brenda Owens and unanimously approved 2 $500 scholarships for the Cannon Falls Housing Initiative for 2009-2010 school year.

 

19.                Committee Reports:

Curriculum committee commented on weighted grades, ACT scores, and summed up the school year. 

The Facility Committee stated that there will be a special meeting on May 21, 2009 at 6:00 pm to award the Elementary construction bids.

 

Superintendent Sesker reported he is busy watching the legislative actions; right now the funding is at a 0% increase for the next 2 years.

 

Head of Operations and Maintenance reported on the continued construction, and they are now moving onto the Elementary roofs.

 

The Principals reported that the year is winding down and the kids have been incredible.  Principal Beth Giese wanted to thank Cherri Sasse, the crew, and the students for a wonderful art show. 

 

Cathy Banks and Bill Thompson commented on another wonderful play and the final one at the Community Center.

 

Brenda Owens commented on the CHI, a sheet of quotes was handed out prior to prom.  Cards were given to parents of seniors for alcohol free graduation parties.  Brenda Owens, Pat Dougherty and Todd Sesker attended legislative session and it did not sound like they would go into Special Session.

 

20.                Motioned by Pat Dougherty, seconded by Jerry Reinardy and unanimously approved to adjourn at 8:53 pm.
