Monday
October 26, 2009
The School Board of Independent School District 252 met in
regular session, Monday, in the Boardroom of the High School. Present:

was called to order by Chair,

Dougherty, seconded by Cathy Banks and unanimously approved the agenda with the
addition of item G, snow removal quotes.

Banks, seconded by Pat Dougherty and unanimously approved the minutes from
September 29th 2009 and October 5th 2009.
4.
Dina Fesler
and Missy Klapperich attended the board meeting to present an idea they have
come up with to help support a program that our school has really immersed
itself into. Missy has been the leader
with this movement with the help from Dina’s organization. She was connected
with Dina through Mr. Sesker a couple of years ago. They explained what the
program was all about. The

of the Goodhue County Education District’s policy regarding Special Education
Guidelines on the Retention and Destruction of Student Records for Cannon Falls
Area Schools.

Coaches and the Winter Assistant Coaches.

snow removal bids.

Thompson, seconded by Brenda Owens and unanimously approved to go out for snow
bids that will be written as per time and per annual contract with hauling of
snow to be included in the bid.

Committee
Reports
Curriculum Committee- Beth presented 3rd
and 5th grade math and hired a new teacher. 8th grade math standards will be
more intense. Textbook rotation will
need to be looked at with the new standards.
Finance Committee- Aid anticipation is
setup and running. 17% is being held by
the state and we may not see it as “promised”.
Superintendents
Report
Busy wrapping up the
construction project. Update on the art work for the entry way. SEMENT, a video conference meeting we are
looking for a coordinator for this group.
Discussing taking an inventory of all teleconference classes offered and
creating a database for this group of schools.
Head
of Operations and Maintenance Report
Continuing to move offices, returning
unclaimed freight to previous owners putting up display boards, and the
Elementary roof is still in progress.
Principals
Report
Steve
Fredrickson, High School-Parent/Teacher
conferences were a success in the new atrium and commons area. Parents liked the proximity between the two
areas for conferring with teachers in both levels. The new facilities are working out
beautifully! The added space at lunch
has helped with student management. Open
house for the new building is October 29th. Fall sports are winding down after successful
seasons. We are hosting the HVL music
competition on November 9th.
Our annual Veterans Day program will be at 10:00 am in the
auditorium. Scheduling picture day and
college fair during homecoming week was well received and we will continue with
it for next year.
Beth
Giese, Elementary- Amanda
Sardeson has been hired for the ARRA Stimulus teacher. She will be working in many capacities; Grade
1 reading as an RtI teacher and working with both Tier 1 and Tier 2 students,
Grade 3and 4 math pull-out support for students struggling with basic math
skills. System 44
reading teacher in 4th grade.
The Book Buddies program is Thursday mornings from 8:15-9:45. This will be a great opportunity for the
community to spend some time each week reading and listening to some of the our first graders.
Book Buddies are Parents or Grandparents of 1st graders, Bank
Employees involved in Book Buddy Program, and the
Anne
Fick, ALC- DAC (District Assessment
Coordinator) With upcoming November 3,4, and 5th state tests for 12th
graders, I have been spending much of my time reviewing and updating records in
JMC. My initial lists of 40 plus
students needing the tests have been revised downward to just over 20. There may be a few parents and/or students who
will be glad that I took the time to check into it. AYP (Adequate Yearly
Progress) Plan, work on this years plan is going along nicely. The team is working hard on a required needs
assessment as well as the parts of the plan that will follow from that
assessment. Other required areas of the
report include evaluation of last year’s results and our plan for continued
improvement. The board will be given the
final plan for approval. ALC (
Community
Education Report
Community Education has moved to the
High School building by the field house. The first advisory council meeting of
the year was held and lunch was provided by the school district.
Student
Report
Marquerite Haggerty commented that the
field house is perfect with the early snow and the bad weather. It is also big enough for all Homecoming
Activities. The cafeteria is great to
use everyday for lunches and activity meetings.
