However, when snow and ice enter the scene, we <BR> need to make decisions that affect our "normal" routine. <BR> <BR> I will call Superintendents around the area, talk to the Cannon Falls <BR> Transportation Coordinator, who in turn will contact drivers from all <BR> corners of the district to see what the road conditions are like. I have a <BR> computer in my office that tracks storms and gives warnings periodically. <BR> Finally, I drive the roads myself to determine whether or not conditions are <BR> safe for travel. <BR> <BR> In short, we get input from many sources around the area before making a <BR> final decision. All of this happens between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. If need <BR> be, I will request a 2 hour late start and then decide later whether or not <BR> to cancel the entire day. I always sway on the side of safety. I will try my <BR> best to make the two-hour late start decision prior to 5:50 a.m. <BR> <BR> This is a difficult decision and we take this very seriously. Once again, we <BR> do this for the safety of the students. During periods of peak <BR> energy consumption, Xcel may ask us to shut down our energy usage (close <BR> the schools). This notice may be given only hours ahead of time...much like <BR> a snow emergency in the winter. If that is the case, we will follow our <BR> normal procedures for sending kids home early (like a snow emergency).<BR> <BR> Given that we could experience such weather conditions during the next month <BR> or two, we ask that all parents/guardians be aware of this possibility and <BR> listen to our local radio stations.
