“Excel” for
Purpose: A student incentive program to reward any student (grades 10-12) for doing good job in the classroom, for showing academic success, attending school regularly and participating in school and community service projects. Business Involvement: Partnership with business; Prizes seem to enhance increased student production and business traffic. Participating businesses receive an “Excel” plaque for display. Student Responsibility: Must make application through the Guidance Office and complete and have verified any community/volunteer services each semester. Requirements—student must achieve the following during the previous semester to attain the appropriate level of reward. Governance Items for the Excel Program 1-Any student grade 10-12 is eligible to participate. Grades from the preceding semester determines eligibility. (Ex—9th grade, 2nd semester determines 10th grade, 1st semester eligibility) 2-Application and completion of volunteer work for each semester must be completed before the end of the first week of semester 1 and before the beginning of semester 2. 3-Verifying signature for volunteer work cannot be a parent or family member. 4-Card must be presented at the time of any purchase. 5-Card is not transferable (used only by the student issued) and will be dated for its valid duration. 6-Any misuse or abuse of card, or inappropriate behavior at the business establishment, in the community or at school will result in immediate revocation of the card for the remainder of the semester without appeal. 7-A list of awarded students will be provided to all participating businesses each semester. 8-A list of all participating businesses will be provided to all awarded students each semester. 9-Application forms are available from Mrs. Hoffman or Deb Klegin in the Guidance Office. Questions or appeals of guidelines and rules or interpretations may be directed to Mr. Fredrickson. 10-In September, every attempt will be made to issue cards during the second week of school or after businesses have been notified. In second semester, every attempt will be made to issue cards the first week of the semester. 11-All businesses will be contacted to reaffirm participation and update information and regulations. 12-To maintain a high level of integrity in the Excel program, the verifying of signatures and community service may/will be done periodically. 13-Replacement cards will be furnished at student expense. (Cost will be determined by the cost of a replacement school lunch card.) Award Level CriteriaGold Card (picture I.D.—furnished as part of annual picture package/no extra charge) 1-An “A” average/ 3.85 or higher grade point average (Semester GPA—which must be earned from a minimum of four courses taken at CFHS). 2-Four or fewer absences or tardies of any type for the semester (not including school sanctioned activities). An absence is defined as anything less than a minimum 4 class periods of attendance during any given day. 3-No in-school, office detention, out-of-school suspension or unexcused absences. 4-15 hours of verified volunteer work. Examples of volunteer work/ community service would be: a-peer tutoring or testing b-community/school recycling projects c-food drives d-nursing home aid (without pay) e-Sunday School/Vacation Bible School instructor or day care ( a community organization). f-officiate or manage recreation programs (without pay). g-other volunteer work or service provided without pay. [Participation in an extracurricular school activity (student council, annual, sports, etc) would not constitute volunteer work. However, participation in a student council activity (such as a food drive), if verified by a supervisor, would qualify. Also, participation for such organizations like band or athletic boosters is inappropriate as you ultimately receive some benefit from your service.] Blue Card (picture I.D.—furnished as part of annual picture package/no extra charge) 1-An “A-“ average/ 3.35 or higher grade point average (Semester GPA—which must be earned from a minimum of four courses taken at CFHS). 2-Six or fewer absences or tardies of any type for the semester (not including school sanctioned activities). (Definition of absence same as above.) 3-No in-school, office detention, out-of-school suspension or unexcused absences. 4-12 hours of verified volunteer work. (Definition of volunteer work same as above.) Green Card (picture I.D.—furnished as part of annual picture package/no extra charge) 1-An increase/improvement in GPA of .5 or more during the previous semester OR a “B” average (2.85 GPA) or higher (earned from a minimum of four courses taken at CFHS). 2-Eight or fewer absences or tardies of any type for the semester (not including school sanctioned activities). (Definition of absence same as above.) 3-No in-school, office detention, out-of-school suspension or unexcused absences. 4-9 hours of verified volunteer work. (Definition of volunteer work same as above.)
