Where is the high school guidance office located? The high school guidance office is now located in the new office area in the front of the high school building. Please report to the high school office upon entering for a visitors' pass. The office staff will direct you to the guidance office. What are the hours of the high school guidance office? The guidance office is open during the normal school hours: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The office operates during the regularly scheduled school days. Who are the people in the high school guidance office? Deb Klegin is the office assistant. Deb serves many roles in the guidance office including taking appointments for the counselor. The high school counselor is Kirsten Hoffman. How do I know if my child is on track for graduation? Call for a scheduled appointment with Mrs. Hoffman. Her phone number is 507- 263-6800 x1441. We can go over all of the earned credits for your son or daughter to date plus what they will need in the future. Using a handy credit worksheet with your child's transcript of grades from 9-12, you will see immediately how things are going. How can students make up credits that have been failed? There are opportunities available for students in the areas of: Math, Science, English and Social Studies. During the school year, students may make up credits by scheduling their make up classes into their present schedule. What is always important to remember is that this will back up their progress toward graduation. Excellent point to remember: Don't fail classes! Call for interventions prior to that final failing grade. How can I get more information about a GED? GED preparation classes (to get you ready to take the GED) are available through Community Education. You may reach this office by calling 507-263- 6800 ext. 1410 or ext. 1411. If you are interested in the actual GED test, you may call 651-385-4774 for more information. This gives you a center in Red Wing that administers the GED test on an appointment basis only. There are countless sites in this area that administer the GED...Red Wing is the one that we use the most from the Cannon Falls area. The cost of the test is approximately $75.00. What are the requirements for a Cannon Falls High School diploma? 24 credits are needed to graduate. Please check your student handbook for the breakdown on how to reach these 24 credits. Graduation requirements have changed in the past few years and it is a good idea to keep informed. How may I get an appointment with Mrs. Hoffman? Please call Mrs. Hoffman at 507-263-6800 x1441 or Deb Klegin at 507-263-6800 x1440. Students secure passes for an appointment with Mrs. Hoffman by stopping by the Guidance Office. How do I know when specific college recruiters are scheduled? You can check the bullentin board in the High School Guidance on when the recruiters will be visiting CFHS. The names of visiting reps are always listed in the morning announcements the week of the visitation. College visits are also in the school announcements. Please obtain a pass from the Guidance Office to miss a class so you can visit and learn more about a college. I am a student athlete. How do I register with the NCAA? You can search for more information on the web site: www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. Please contact Deb to mail an official high school transcript to the NCAA. Also, make sure you have the ACT office send your ACT scores directly to the NCAA clearninghouse. There is a fee involved. |
