District Plan - Flu

Pandemic Flu Emergency Procedures for Cannon Falls School District

What we have in place:

1.	We have a safety committee that is constantly reviewing our emergency
plans. They meet at minimum, once per month during the school year.
2.	We have a communication plan in place if an outbreak occurs –
Superintendent is the Contact Person 507 – 263 - 6800 option 8
3.	We have discussed this at the safety committee level and the
administrative level. Next fall we will be discussing this with all staff and
then strategically and educationally discussing this with students.
4.	Encourage all employees to get a flu shot.

What we could use:
1.	Software and notification system for parents

Situations

If the county advises the district to do the following, then the school
district will implement the following notifications and procedures

1.	Set up a hotline outside of the school district with the
Superintendent or next available administrator.
2.	All activities will be canceled and may or may not be rescheduled for
the time period missed.
3.	All employees and/or Vendors, parents, etc… will not be allowed in
school during the day off except for the Superintendent and Custodial staff.
The district will be disinfecting all areas of the building.
4.	Vaccinate all employees for the virus that work in the district (H5N1
Strain).
5.	No open enrollments or new students during this time.
6.	Mail will be collected at the post office
7.	Community action may include utilization of transportation vehicles
and facilities. Superintendent will make appropriate contacts as requests
come in from main command post.

Each school will identify a committee of three-four persons responsible for
developing a timeline and overseeing the implementation of the pandemic flue
preparations, possible interventions, and an incident command center
(Hotline) that receives communication from the District Office and the Local
County Health Department. The committee will provide communication to staff,
families and students.

School site committee may do:

	Create a pamphlet explaining what the pandemic flu is and the school
district’s procedures if this were to happen. (Safety Committee)
	Identify individuals to educate staff about the pandemic flu (Nursing
Staff)
	Identify individuals to educate students about hand washing, covering
cough with a tissue, and staying home when sick. (Nursing Staff)
	Identify individuals to educate families about pandemic flu and the
school plan.
	Identify individual to make sure each room has either soap or running
water for hand washing and if not provide alcohol based hand-washing product.
Place Kleenix in each room.
	Distribute and post in each classroom the “Cover Your Cough” poster.
