Happy Friday! Sorry about the confusion on the Nile River Project. I sent the Newsflash before I made the link. It usually takes just a minute, but this time the file was in a different format and didn't work...but now it did! So, it's on the homework page, but the kids have heard nothing about it yet. Please wait until Amy explains the project in class to get started. Thanks!
Today we reviewed different types of figurative language. The kids are working on a small poster show five different types of figurative language. This is due on Tuesday. We will have some time, not much, to work on Monday.
Egypt will start on Monday!
Have a great weekend!

Hello!
I hope you are all staying warm! Please remind your kids to wear hats, mittens, and coats. Believe it or not, we have many kids walking out of here at night with just their sweatshirt on - no jackets. Busses have broken down in the past and we would hate to have kids waiting in the cold. Ok, that's my mom speech, here's whats going on in class...
In Social Studies we are finishing up Mesopotamia with some videos we didn't have time for earlier. On Friday we will begin our Egypt unit. There is a huge project on the Nile River coming up. Your kids will hear about it next week. I've put the directions on the homework page. The project is not due until mid-January; please watch for more information.
In Language Arts we finished writing and performing our Mesopotamia Skits. Today we responded to Santa letters from the first graders at Blue Heron; the kids did a great job! Friday we will begin a figuratiave language unit. Next week we will go to the library on Tuesday and Thursday to learn about the adventure/survival and mystery genres.
I have asked the kids to each read 25 books this year - some were excited - others, not so much. My goal is to get kids to enjoy reading. Don't worry, there won't be assignments or projects with each books - just some book talks with me and their classmates.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a great day!
