Should my child have homework everyday?

The bulk of all classwork will be completed in school. The only
real homework you will see will be if your child is absent and
needs to make up work, is not using his/her classtime well, minor
project preparation/materials collection, and study for upcoming
quizzes or tests.

What is D.O.G.?

D.O.G. stands for Daily Oral Geography with which we start class
every day. It consists of two or three questions that are either
basic geography knowledge and skills or current geography in
relation to the ancient civilization we are studying. Students
have five minutes to complete the D.O.G. questions independently,
then we go over it together in class. They are to write each
question as well as their answer. In the event that their answer
is wrong, students are encouraged to record the correct answer as
they are actually compiling a study guide to be used to review
for each D.O.G. quiz.

D.0.G. is used not only to increase knowledge of map reading
skills and locations, but also to tie together just where in the
world we are focusing on as we move through the civilizations we
study.

What if my child misses a day of Daily Oral Geography?

It is the student's responsibility to get the D.O.G. that was
missed due to absence. They can achieve this in a variety of
ways:
1. Contact their #1 clock partner and record questions with the
   correct answers
2. Ask any group member upon their return.
3. Use the flip chart of D.O.G. questions & answers in the front
   of the room
4. Use my Teacher Manual

How often are D.O.G. quizzes?

D.O.G. quizzes occur about every 3 weeks and are 10 to 15 points.
Students are reminded frequently about upcoming quizzes and even
what some "really good quiz questions" might be. :)

In the event of absence on a quiz day students will complete quiz
upon return to school. Quizzes cannot be made up at home, nor
taken in advance.
