Hello!
My name is Kathryn Miller, and I love teaching third grade! This will be my
twenty-sixth year teaching at Visitation. Each year gets better and better. I
spent my undergraduate years at St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. I graduated
with a degree in Preschool Education and Elementary K-6 Education, along with
a minor in Library Science. Then, I moved to the Twin Cities to study at the
graduate school of the University of St. Thomas. I received my Masters in the
Gifted, Creative, and Talented. After completing my Masters, I continued to
further my education through taking a large variety of classes at Hamline
University and the University of St. Thomas. This past summer, I took a
phenomenal class called "Developing Algebraic Thinking in the Elementary
School" at Hamline. I learned so much, and I cannot wait to bring this back to
the classroom! I am so blessed to explore my lifelong passion of learning over
the summer. I enjoy being on the "other side" of the classroom.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my amazing family and great
friends. I have two daughters who are both Visitation lifers and alumni. They
both started Vis at the young age of three in the Montessori program.
Elizabeth graduated in 2007. She will commence her junior year at Boston
College this fall. She studies English, History, and Philosophy as a prelaw
student. Carolyn just graduated this year. She will begin her collegiate
studies at Gustavus Adolphus College beginning this fall. My husband Terry and I
would be empty nesters this September, but luckily we have a collie to keep us
company. I am so blessed that I will be surrounded by your precious children
five days a week.
I love to exercise, volunteer, socialize with my neighbors, read, travel, and
from time to time, I venture to the mall. Long walks with my dog give me time
to appreciate the simple things in life. The time I spend volunteering for
Open Arms has been so rewarding on both the spiritual and emotional level. I
love answering my call to ministry at my church. Time spent with my close
group of friends always leaves me grateful to have so many caring people
around me. My love of reading makes me want to author a novel of my own.
Lastly, my overflowing love of travel takes me to new and exciting places.
I cannot wait to learn about each and every one of my new students and their
families!
This school year, the classroom theme will be: Open the Door to the Treasures
of Third Grade. I look forward to focusing on the everyday treasures in our
lives. From friendship to wisdom to family to faith, we all have so much to be
grateful for. I already count each of you as a new treasure in my life.
